2015 Nudgee Quality Tips & Selections

14 top fillies and mares are set to run in the Listed Nudgee Quality (1200m) this Saturday – the feature race running at Doomben Racecourse.

A patient ride in the Nudgee Quality could see Endless Shadow emerge victorious.

Six of those 14 are offering single figure odds in the betting market at Ladbrokes.com.au, which is led by Missy Longstocking at $3.30.

The Liam Birchley-trained mare was heavily supported on her return in the Magic Millions Sprint (1100m) at the Gold Coast on January 10 following a year on the sidelines due to injury.

Missy Longstocking lived up to her hype, running just half a length behind winner Straturbo in third place. She will now carry the top weight of 59kg in the 2015 Nudgee Quality, which is five kilograms more than last time, and jump from barrier three.

However Birchley made it known earlier in the week that Missy Longstocking would not run at Doomben on Saturday if the track was rain-affected. Following an entire day of heavy rainfall in Brisbane, her start is looking doubtful. See below for our top three Nudgee Quality runners if the mare finds herself scratched.

1st

#5 Endless Shadow ($8.50)

Peter Hulbert’s six-year-old mare ran on strongly last start to win the Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap (1300m) on January 10 and a similar patient ride will help the mare prove the naysayers wrong who claim her win was just a fluke. With the Doomben track likely to be soft/heavy, Endless Shadow could benefit. The mare has won two of her five starts on soft tracks and finished in the first three in all five starts on heavy ground. Overcame a wide start to win last time out so shoudn’t find the jump from barrier 11 too difficult. All in all, Endless Shadow is a great betting prospect for punters.

2nd

#4 Breakfast In Bed (”$4.60″)

The Toby Edmonds-trained mare was last in the Listed Travel Associates Classic (1200m) first-up but managed to finish second in the Listed Just Now Quality (1350m) and win a Benchmark 85 over 1400 metres since then. An ideal start from barrier two with Jim Byrne to ride should see the five-year-old hard to beat. Breakfast In Bed has also placed in three of her six starts on soft tracks.

3rd

#3 Little Brown Horse ($16)

Punters looking for a lucrative bet to round out their trifecta should consider Kelly Doughty’s Little Brown Horse. With a win price of $16 or $4.60 to place, the six-year-old mare could deliver you plenty of winnings. The mare has run a solid race in both the Listed Just Now Quality (1350m) and Listed Goldmarket Handicap (1300m) her past two starts, finishing fifth in both. The mare found herself caught wide both times but still managed to run on well. A better run on Saturday could see her right in the finish however she’ll need to make her way over from the widest gate. Has plenty of experience on soft tracks.
