2015 Blue Diamond Fillies Preview Tips & Selections

One of two Group 3 races at Sandown-Hillside on Australia Day this long weekend is the Blue Diamond Fillies Preview 2015 – betting tips for which are detailed below.

Fontiton

There are 16 hopeful two-year-old fillies in the field for this Monday’s edition of the $150,000 Group 3 Blue Diamond Preview (Fillies) (1000m), the favourite of which is the Robert Smerdon-trained Fontiton.

She’s at $4.80 in the futures markets at Ladbrokes.com.au to win the $1 million Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 28 and is at a much shorter $1.80 to win her second career start this Monday.

Smerdon’s Turffontein filly came up trumps with a barrier five draw with jockey Mark Zahra staying on after guiding her to a barnstorming six length victory in the $250,000 Inglis 2YO Banner (1000m) at Moonee Valley back on Cox Plate Day in late October.

While she hasn’t had an official trial since Smerdon is confident she’s come through the break well and is ready to retain her undefeated status in the Fillies Preview.

Following Fontiton in the Blue Diamond (Fillies) Preview odds are then three other single figure hopefuls.

Occupying the second line of betting are Reward For Effort filly Take Pride ($6) shooting for a third win from as many starts and the Chris Waller-trained Helsingor ($6.50) who ran second over 1000m at Flemington on debut back on January 10.

Rounding out the single figure hopes is then the early market mover Promenades ($7) for John O’Shea and Godolphin who has had money come in for her despite a horror barrier 14 draw.

So will the favourite salute?

And will the minor placings be filled by those at the top end of the market?

1st

#1 Fontiton ($1.80)

Really is hard to bet against the 57.5kg top weight who has the gun draw (5), Zahra staying on and the blistering six length win on debut in the Inglis Banner. Has been working well ahead of her new campaign and is dominating betting for this and the 2015 Blue Diamond Stakes. Should get a lovely run and beat them home, but there’s a few to keep an eye on so don’t expect it to be another six length effort, though she is speedy.

2nd

#6 Tiz My View ($26)

Big odds being offered on the Sam Pritchard-Gordon-trained Snitzel filly. Lovely breeding and has previous race experience having run third when beaten two and a half lengths by Take Pride over this distance at Flemington at the start of the month. Far from disgraced there and should be improving off the run especially from a gun barrier two draw for Monday. Glen Boss is off but no problems with the replacement Damien Oliver. Can surprise and adds value in a race where the hard-to-beat favourite is so short.

3rd

#2 Take Pride ($6)

Two wins from two starts to date for the Murray Johnson-trained Seymour-based filly. She won at home on debut over 1009m in December then ran again on January 1 down the Flemington straight defeating Air Apparent and Tiz My View. Did it from barrier six there and gets gate eight with Cory Parish staying on.
