Running as Sandown Race 3 at 2:30pm, this year’s $120,000 Listed Blue Diamond Preview (C&G) (1000m) features 12 juvenile colts and geldings.

Sitting top of the odds at Ladbrokes.com.au are the John O’Shea-trained Mesa and Top Me Up for Team Hawkes drawn wide in barriers 12 and 10 respectively at $4 each to win the first official lead-up race for the $1 million Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 28.

Mesa has had the one previous run when third to Thurlow in a narrow finish in the Listed Merson Cooper Stakes (1000m) at the Sandown track last November.

He put in a sensational three length trial win at the track again on January 13 gearing up for his Preview run where Damian Browne rides him.

Top Me Up meanwhile is an unraced grey Exceed And Excel colt who comes into the BD Preview without a trial but who is tipped for a good debut.

Outside the top two in Blue Diamond Preview betting for the boys’ edition are then three other single figure hopes with Demonstrate ($5.50), Kirabo ($5.50) on the rails and Manhattan Blues ($6.50) who is the only non-maiden in the line-up.

John O’Shea prepares Godolphin entry Demonstrate who has had two lead-up trials before his first run on the long weekend.

Both produced a second including over the 800m at Sandown on January 13 behind Him Name Jim.

Kirabo is yet to trial, Mick Price’s Caulfield-based Real Saga colt to get a gun run from the inside alley with top hoop Damien Oliver booked for the ride.

Manhattan Blues then starts from gate five with Steven King aboard, Tony McEvoy’s Adelaide raider coming off a win on debut back home at Morphettville Parks over 1000m on January 10.

Other longer priced hopes not without their claims then include the Robbie Griffiths-trained Redoute’s Choice colt Burnstone ($10) in barrier two, Matt Laurie’s also un-trialled Von Vacheron ($13) drawn one wider in three, Trench Fighter ($13) who is the best fancied of Robbie Laing’s trio and early market mover Call Me Anything backed in from $21 to $18 who ran third to Claudia Jean at Flemington on debut last month.
