Endless Shadow to Prove Naysayers Wrong in 2015 Nudgee Quality

Trainer Peter Hulbert is laughing off claims that Endless Shadow’s win in the Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap (1300m) at the Gold Coast on January 10 was a fluke.

He is confident that his six-year-old mare will prove it wasn’t a one-off this weekend at Doomben Racecourse in the Listed Nudgee Quality (1200m).

Endless Shadow may have been a $19 shot to win the $200,000 Magic Millions race but Hulbert has always had a big opinion of the mare – it’s just taken everyone else a little longer to catch on.

“How they can say it was a fluke has me beaten. She went around five deep without any cover but ran over the top of a good field,” Hulbert told Sky Racing.

“It was no fluke as you only have to look at her other form where she has been very consistent without having any luck.”

Endless Shadow will enjoy a run over the same distance at Doomben on Saturday, though her start hasn’t gotten any more advantageous. Still the mare managed to win the Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap from barrier 13 so should make easy work from barrier 11 in the 2015 Nudgee Quality. Local favourite jockey Tegan Harrison has retained the ride.

Hulbert has revealed the mare will be spelled following this weekend’s race but could return during the winter.

“I think she might be a length or two off the main winter carnival races. But a race like the Silk Stocking at the Gold Coast on Prime Minister’s Cup day would suit her,” he said.

“She does like the Gold Coast and the top mares don’t usually contest it. If she goes OK in that we can look at something a bit stronger.”

Endless Shadow is an $8.50 hopeful in the Nudgee Handicap betting market at Ladbrokes.com.au for which Missy Longstocking is the $3.40 firm favourite.

Liam Birchley’s four-year-old mare will carry the top weight of 59kg after a fast finishing third in the Magic Millions Sprint (1100m). However the trainer has made it known the mare will not run on Saturday if the track is rain-affected.
