2015 Nudgee Quality Betting Update

14 fillies and mares will contest the Listed Nudgee Quality (1200m) at Doomben Racecourse on Saturday, offering punters a variety of betting opportunities.

Missy Longstocking is firm favourite in the Nudgee Quality betting but will not start if the track is rain-affected.

Just five of those 14 have single figure odds in the betting market at Ladbrokes.com.au, led by Missy Longstocking at $3.50.

The Liam Birchley-trained mare is the firm favourite to win the 2015 Nudgee Quality after finishing third in the Magic Millions Sprint (1100m) at the Gold Coast on January 10, just half a length behind winner Staturbo.

Birchley believes Missy Longstocking should have won the $200,000 race if not for a couple of check in the straight. Either way it was a good result for the mare in her first start in exactly one year.

Missy Longstocking will get an ideal jump from barrier three with Damian Browne but carry the top weight of 59kg, which is five kilograms more than in the Magic Millions Sprint.

Of course there are four other single figure hopefuls that Missy Longstocking will need to beat home to emerge victorious in the Nudgee Quality.

  • #4 Breakfast In Bed ($5)Toby Edmonds’ five-year-old mare began her preparation on a low after finishing last in the Listed Travel Associates Classic (1200m) however he turned it around to finish runner-up in the Listed Just Now Quality and win a Benchmark 85. The mare will jump from barrier two with Jim Byrne to ride.
  • #7 Caprossa ($7) – Six-year-old Caprossa will start from barrier seven with Jeff Lloyd to ride. The mare had had eight starts over 1200 metres, winning three and placing in another, however she will make her Doomben debut on Saturday.
  • #5 Endless Shadow ($8.50)Peter Hulbert’s mare is a last-start winner of the Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap (1300m) at the Gold Coast, an upset win considering her starting price was $19. Endless Shadow won from gate 13 then so her wide draw for Saturday should not put off punters. Tegan Harrison has retained the ride.
  • #6 Pickabee ($9)Caitlin Lavin’s five-year-old mare is the final single figure hopeful in the Nudgee Quality betting. Pickabee will get an ideal start from barrier one with Ryan Wiggins to ride and won over the course and distance last May.
