2015 Melbourne Autumn Carnival in Pipeline for Egyptian Melody

Two-year-old Egyptian Melody has yet to make her racing debut yet trainer Danny Bougoure is already planning an autumn campaign in Melbourne for the filly.

The Exceed And Excel filly will run first-up at Doomben Racecourse on Saturday in the 2YO Fillies Handicap (1110m) and if she races well could travel down south to Melbourne during the autumn.

Originally scheduled to make her debut in October last year, Bougoure decided to give her more time to mature. While she hasn’t officially trialed, the filly did have a jump out in the lead up to Saturday’s race this morning, which pleased the trainer.

“She went okay in the jump-out but and we have a bit of an opinion of her,” Bougure told Sky Racing.

“If she goes OK we might take her down to Melbourne for the autumn.”

Egyptian Melody is one of 11 fillies set to run in the 2YO Fillies Handicap on Saturday. She improved her chances after drawing the inside jump from barrier one and Group One winning jockey Damian Browne will be in the saddle.

All factors seem to be working in the juvenile filly’s favour and she was instilled as favourite in the betting market at Ladbrokes.com.au with odds of $3.20.

Bougoure will also saddle Anna Lizzie at Doomben on Saturday. The five-year-old mare is due to run in the Ashgrove Cricket Club Handicap (1600m) two weeks after running second in the Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap (1300m) at the Gold Coast.

Anna Lizzie overcame a start from the widest gate to finish just three quarters of a length behind winner Endless Shadow. The mare was drawn more ideally in Saturday’s Handicap, due to jump from barrier five with Glen Colless retaining the ride.

“Unfortunately she drew the outside barrier and had no luck. But it was a very good run and she has won second up,” Bougoure said.

“If she measures up we might look for something a bit better in the winter.”

Anna Lizzie is the $2 firm favourite to win the Ashgrove Cricket Club Handicap at Ladbrokes.com.au.
