11 potential stayers have accepted for the race, offering punters a variety of betting options. Nine of those 11 are offering single figure odds at Ladbrokes.com.au, led by Danas Best at $4.20.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained gelding has placed in two of his three starts at Randwick and won one of his two starts over 2400 metres.

Danas Best was lightly run in 2014 with just two starts to her name but was trialed six times. The gelding has finished fourth in both of his past two starts including the Magic Millions Stayers Cup (1800m) at the Gold Coast on January 10, where he missed out on third place by just a nose.

The gelding will jump midfield from barrier five with champion hoop Tommy Berry to ride.

Hot on Danas’ Best tail in the 2015 Australia Day Cup betting is Oriental Lady ($4.80). The Kris Lees-trained mare will jump next to Waterhouse’s gelding in barrier four with Brenton Avdulla in the saddle.

Oriental Lady was runner-up to Midsummer Sun in the Listed Gosford Cup (2100m) last time out but has had just one start over 2400 metres.

With seven more single figure hopefuls, you may find yourself hard pressed to choose a valuable bet.

Chris Waller’s Multilateral is offering $6.50. While the gelding gets a good start from barrier two, he will carry 58.5kg, which is up to four and a half kilograms heavier than the rest of the field.

Multilateral has had a hit-and-miss summer campaign that began with an end of the field finish in the Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1600m) before going on to win the Listed Tattersalls Cup (2400m) on January 1. He just missed out on a placing in the Gosford Cup last time out.

The rest of the single figure hopefuls are all paying $9-$9.50 including Ghost Protocol, Permit, and Off The Rails.

Paul Perry’s Ghost Protocol will enjoy the inside jump from barrier one with Kerrin McEvoy to ride. The six-year-old gelding was runner-up to Multilateral in the Tattersalls Cup on New Year’s Day and was just two lengths behind Midsummer Sun in the Gosford Cup. He will benefit from the rails jump on Saturday.

Permit is the other runner to be saddled by Waller in the 2015 Australia Day Cup. The eight-year-old gelding will jump from barrier three with Hugh Bowman but carry the top weight of 59kg.

Off The Rails was a minor placer in the Magic Millions Stayers Cup (1800m) last time out.
