Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Lee & Anthony Freedman’s in-form sprinter Reparations is the top-rated nomination taken for this Monday’s John Dillon Stakes 2015 at Sandown Racecourse.
The Exceed And Excel six-year-old enjoyed his ninth career win first-up at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day in the Listed MSS Security Stakes (1200m) before being sent out again for another break.
After 58 days away from racing the gelding resumed again this time running third hitting the line well two lengths off the winner Decircles in the Group 3 Standish Handicap (1200m).
Now he is nominated, one of only nine original entries, for this Monday’s $120,000 John Dillon Stakes (1400m) on Australia Day in Melbourne.
Nominations for the handicap clash have been extended until 10am (local time) on Wednesday following the below-par level of interest.
Another headline John Dillon Stakes nomination is Group 1 placed Blackie, the Jarron McLean-trained seven-year-old having run third to Solzhenitsyn in the 2013 Toorak Handicap.
He however will need to be improving on a Standish Handicap 10th when dropping away to cross seven lengths off the winner.
The other most notable entry is the Leon & Troy Corstens-trained Tried And Tired who comes off a string of good runs.
A five-year-old son of Niello, he won the Listed Christmas Stakes (1200m) at Sandown-Lakeside on Boxing Day and then finished a nose away second to Red Excitement in the Listed Chester Manifold Stakes (1400m) just last weekend.
Tried And Tired then is on a short turnaround but is also a three-time winner, two-time runner-up over the distance, and boasts a previous win at the track and distance.
Other notable John Dillon Stakes hopes include Standish Handicap sixth placed Aeronautical, the Archie Alexander-trained Amorino who ran seventh in that same lead-up race and dual winner at the Sandown track Backstedt.
Rounding out the nominations are then the Darren Weir-trained Anlon coming of a sixth in the Chester Manifold, Robert Smerdon’s Bel Esprit Stakes runner-up at Sandown-Lakeside from last March and the Peter Moody-trained last start Morphettville winner Infinite Energy.
Sandown race fields for Monday are due out on Thursday so stay tuned.
