Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Robert Smerdon’s early Blue Diamond Stakes favourite Fontiton is the headline nominee for the 2015 Blue Diamond Fillies Preview at Sandown this Australia Day, Monday January 26.
The smart black daughter of Turffontein caught the eye on debut when destroying her rivals by six lengths to win the Inglis 2YO Banner over 1000m at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate Day in late October.
She is now likely to run first-up and kick off her Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival campaign, where she’s targeting the $1 million Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield Racecourse on February 28, this long weekend.
Smerdon has nominated her for the $120,000 Blue Diamond Preview (Fillies) (1000m) and if she starts she’ll be odds-on favourite to win through Ladbrokes.com.au.
The next shortest priced filly in the early Blue Diamond Stakes odds nominated for Monday’s preview is then Take Pride ($17) from the Seymour stables of Murray Johnson.
The undefeated Reward For Effort two-year-old has won both of her career starts to date and will be out to make it three on the trot this Monday.
She debuted at home on December 18 to win by two and three-quarter lengths before backing up at Flemington on New Year’s Day to win again, this time by nearly two lengths in the $80,000 New Year Plate (1000m).
Also a decent chance for the 2015 Blue Diamond Stakes in the futures markets is fellow BD Fillies’ Preview nominee Promenades ($26) for Godolphin and John O’Shea.
The unraced Lonhro filly is yet to start under race conditions but comes into her debut off two smart trials including a win over Horizontal at Rosehill on January 6.
O’Shea has also nominated for the also unraced Pursuits whose sole trial was at Sandown on January 13 for a second behind Reemah.
Another notable hope for Monday, if accepted, is the Wez Hunter-trained Parcel who is at around $50 in futures Blue Diamond Stakes betting.
An impressive winner at Bendigo over 900m last month, she’s nominated for the Preview but more likely to be saved for an easier Moonee Valley assignment on Friday January 30.
Other headline nominations include the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained More Than Ready filly Haybah who has had four starts for a win and a second, and Chris Waller’s daughter of Dane Shadow Helsingor coming off a second on debut behind Ragazzo Del Corsa at Flemington on January 10.
See below for the full 2015 Blue Diamond Fillies Preview nominations, the field and barriers for which are due out on Thursday.
Before then make sure you’re ready for three big days of racing this weekend by opening an account online with Ladbrokes.com.au who are matching the first deposits of new customers dollar for dollar up to $250 when you quote the code BETBONUS!
