Two $120,000 Listed Previews take place over 1000m this Monday, January 26, ahead of the $1 million Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 28.

Nominations are extended until Wednesday at 10am (local time) but trainer Robbie Laing dominates the current entries with five hopefuls.

Laing’s current BD Colts & Geldings’ Preview nominees are: Apoloboom, Eagles Dare, Kentucky Flyer, Trench Fighter who ran sixth in the Debutant Stakes on debut in October and Him Name Jim who debuted at Ballarat last Sunday with a third behind the impressive Ramlah.

The majority of the possible runners are unraced but of those to have had a run one of the standouts is the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Call Me Anything.

The Redoute’s Choice colt debuted at Flemington on December 20 and finished third behind stablemate Claudia Jean in the Christmas Season Plate (1000m).

Claudia Jean went on to run a luckless seventh from the inside alley in the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic on the Gold Coast at the start of the month and is another possible Blue Diamond runner.

Tony McEvoy’s Adelaide raider Manhattan Blues meanwhile has already broken his maiden status, the Manhattan Rain gelding having won on debut at Morphettville Parks on January 15 on a Soft (6) track.

He is up in class then this Monday and how he measures up will go a long way in determining whether he’s good enough for a Blue Diamond campaign.

Other notable hopes include the Ciaron Maher-trained Well Sighted who debuted with a fifth behind Parcel at Bendigo and Godolphin’s New Approach colt Demonstrate coming off a second in a Sandown trial from January 13.

Along with Demonstrate, trainer John O’Shea has also nominated for Lonhro colt Mesa who sits at around $34 in the futures Blue Diamond Stakes odds at the bookmakers.

He debuted at Sandown-Hillside on November 15 last year running a close third just a neck off Thurlow in the Listed Merson Cooper Stakes (1000m) and won his trail at this track on January 13 by an impressive three lengths.
