Permit Headlines 2015 Australia Day Cup Nominations

Nominations for the Listed Australia Day Cup (2400m), running at Royal Randwick Racecourse on Saturday, were taken on Monday morning with Chris Waller’s Permit leading the charge.

The Australia Day Cup is the feature race running in Sydney this weekend, for which 11 potential stayers were nominated.

Waller is set to dominate the race after nominating both Permit and Multilateral.

Eight-year-old gelding Permit won the Listed Tattersalls Club Cup (2400m) last January but has failed to win any of his eleven starts since, finishing inside the first three in only the [email protected] Handicap (1900m) on November 15.

Permit finished dead last in the Listed Christmas Cup (2400m) on December 13, after walking up the straight and just flattened out late when defending his Tattersalls Club Cup crown on January 1.

It was stable mate Multilateral that won the New Year’s Day race after end of the field finishes in the Listed Festival Stakes (1500m), Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1600m), and Summer Cup (2000m).

Multilateral was last seen in the Listed Gosford Cup (2100m) on January 9, finishing just outside the placings in fourth.

Godolphin could be represented in the 2015 Australia Day Cup by Gallatin after nominating the four-year-old gelding.

Gallatin has finished outside the placings in all eight of his past starts, the last of which was a second last place run in the Summer Cup and a midfield finish in the Gosford Cup.

Gai Waterhouse has nominated Danas Best, who travelled north to the Gold Coast two weeks ago for the $200,000 Magic Millions Stayers Cup (1800m). The gelding missed out on third place to Off The Rails by a nose.

Danas Best could get his chance at revenge on Saturday as Off The Rails has also been nominated for the Australia Day Cup by Bjorn Baker.

Listed Tattersalls Club Cup (2400m) runner-up Ghost Protocol has been nominated by Paul Perry while Gosford Cup second Oriental Lady could represent Kris Lees.

Check out the full list of 2015 Australia Day Cup nominations below, which have been extended until 11:00am Tuesday morning (AEDT).
