2015 Seascay Handicap Winner Tashbeeh Heading to Dubai

Three-year-old colt Tashbeeh has finished in the first three in his past five consecutive starts, including a minor placing in the Listed TV Stakes (1800m) at Flemington Racecourse back in the spring on Crown Oaks Day.

After winning the Seascay Handicap (1400m) at the same track on Saturday, the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained colt will travel to the United Arab Emirates for the Dubai World Cup carnival next month.

Tashbeeh will begin the carnival with the $US125,000 Meydan Classic (1400m) on February 26 before a potential run in the $2 million UAE Derby (1900m) one month later on Dubai World Cup night.

“Sheihk Hamdan has requested to have a couple of horses of ours to represent him in Dubai,” Dabernig told TVN.

“Off the back of that win he has earned himself a ticket to go. He’s a horse that we’ve always known had potential – it’s just taken a bit of time.

“[Saturday] he had a big weight, he took off early and had him exposed, but he still ran through the line strongly.”

Tashbeeh sustained a long, surging run in the Seascay Handicap to win three-quarters of a length from race favourite Bayonnah with Herstory another half-length away in third.

Hoop Michael Walker delivered the winning ride aboard Tashbeeh, confident he was going to win from the beginning of the week.

“The key to him is you can’t get to the front too early on him as he star gazes,” Walker said.

“I din’t want to make up nine lengths with 59 kg on his back so I presented him early enough without hitting the front.

“When nominations came out he was going to win.”

Dabernig also noted that Tashbeeh’s stable mates Tawteen and Shaf could join the colt in Dubai.

Three-year-old Tawteen has finished in the first three in all but one of his eight career starts, including a win in the Listed Crockett Stakes (1200m) back in October while Shaf will need to impress in the Benchmark 70 Handicap running at Moonee Valley this Saturday to earn his place in the travelling squad.
