2015 Hobart Guineas Nominations Released

The Listed Hobart Guineas (2100m) is the feature race running in Tasmania this weekend, with 13 potential stayers nominating for the $100,000 race.

Headlining the nominations is the Stuart Gandy-trained Geegees Goldengirl. The three-year-old filly has placed in nine of her twelve career starts, which includes a second placing in the Listed Tasmanian Guineas (1600m) on January 11.

The filly couldn’t keep up with winner Admiral, finishing three lengths behind Barry Campbell’s gelding, but made easy work of the rest of the field by putting one and a quarter lengths between herself and third placer Follow My Dust – who is also nominated for the 2015 Hobart Guineas along with another six of the Tasmanian Guineas runners.

Geegees Goldengirl will once again take on half-siblings Geegees Brightstar and Geegees Classicboy – all sired by Wordsmith.

The Rodney Seymour-trained Brightstar was fourth in the Tasmanian Guineas, missing out on a placing by a head while John Luttrell’s Classicboy was at the end of the field.

Both Lee & Anthony Freedman and Peter Moody are sending horses down south to contest the Hobart Guineas.

The Freedman’s have nominated three-year-old gelding Cuban Perfection, who won his maiden on January 8 at Ballarat, while Moody will saddle Fifty Eight Facets, who won her maiden one day earlier at Sandown.

Other nominated horses for the Hobart Guineas include Barry Campbell’s Calavera and Graeme McCulloch & David Keating’s Valdez.

Check out the full list of nominated horses for the 2015 Hobart Guineas below before the final field is announced on Wednesday.
