Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
One of the Spring Carnival’s standout three-year-old performers, trainer Ken Keys has revealed stable star Rich Enuff will be set for an appearance in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) on March 14th.
Finishing outside the places just once in his six competitive appearances on course so far, Rich Enuff has not been seen at the races since a disappointing run for seventh in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on November 1st.
Having originally planned a campaign through the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 14th, Keys said Rich Enuff had returned to his Cranbourne stable with an elevated white cell count, forcing him to re-think a line through the 2015 Autumn Carnival.
“We were heading towards the Orr, but we had to put that on hold,” Keys told Racing Ahead.
“The setback being that he had an elevated white cell count, so we just had to back off a bit.
“We were planning on trialling last week, on Monday at Cranbourne, looking to go towards the Australia Stakes and then the Orr, but the moment that white cell count popped up on the blood we pulled the pin and stopped.
“We treated him for a week, backed right off him and started again.”
Should he accept into the 2015 Newmarket Handicap, Rich Enuff will line up against some of the world’s leading sprinters in Terravista, Chautauqua and Lankan Rupee, but will be boosted by the light handicap offered to three-year-old contenders.
“I have spoken to them (Racing Victoria) and they signalled 50 kilos was what they expected him to be on, so it’s certainly tempting,” Keys added.
Running third in a minor over 1000m on debut in March before immediately returning to the paddock, Rich Enuff stamped his claims as a serious racing contender upon returning to competition in spring; taking out the Listed McKenzie Stakes (1200m) first-up before beating a classy field to the line comfortably in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) on September 13th.
Continuing his impressive run through the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) on September 28th, the Written Tycoon colt jumped resounding favourite in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 11th, but was unable to match the late pace of Shooting To Win and finished second.
