2015 Chester Manifold Stakes Tips & Selections

The Listed Chester Manifold Stakes (1400m) is the feature race running at Flemington Racecourse this Saturday, with 13 sprint-milers set to tackle the $120,000 race.

Five of the runners are offering single figure odds in the betting market at Ladbrokes.com.au, led by Red Excitement at $3.80.

The Gerald Ryan-trained gelding is firm favourite to win the 2015 Chester Manifold Stakes despite drawing the second-widest gate since he’s won his past four starts and has a good record over 1400 metres.

Is this enough for the favourite to justify favouritism? Or will his recent ten month injury break prove too much for the five-year-old?

Much of the field are coming via the Group 3 Standish Handicap (1200m) or the Listed Christmas Stakes (1200m) which means they’ve already gone up against each other. Check out our Chester Manifold Stakes betting tips below to get an idea of who to back on Saturday.

1st

 #7 Decircles ($12

Danny O’Brien’s six-year-old gelding is a great betting prospect for punters in the Chester Manifold Stakes with fixed-odds of $12 to win or $3.70 to place. He will get a good jump from barrier three with Stephen Baster in the saddle and carry 57.5kg. Decircles won the Standish Handicap last time out, grabbing leader Lord Of The Sky in the final 50 metres and drawing away to win. He was less impressive in his other two starts this campaign but has plenty of experience over the track and distance (7:1-2-2).

2nd

#5 Red Excitement ($3.80)

Gerald Ryan’s gelding opened the betting as $4.60 favourite but after plenty of support has seen his price firm to $3.80. Ryan isn’t concerned about the wide draw for Red Excitement since he tends to go better when covering ground in races. Has won his past four starts but was sidelined for ten months last year due to a tendon injury. Returned to win the Drummond Golf Handicap (1400m) with ease on December 20 and has won five of his seven starts over 1400 metres.

3rd

#9 Boristar ($7)

The John MacMillan-trained Boristar is a good bet to round out your Chester Manifold Stakes trifecta considering the gelding has finished in the first three in all six of his starts over 1400 metres. He made his debut at Flemington back in November, finishing runner-up in the Airline Handicap (1400m) and is a last start winner of the Listed Xmas Handicap (1400m) at Morphettville on December 26. Will jump from barrier nine with Ms Jamie Kah as jockey.
