Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Gai Waterhouse is looking to beat her own record of five runners in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) on March 21 after announcing she could saddle “up to six” horses in the $3.5 million race.
Flamboyant Lass, Giulietta, Vancouver, Pierrette, and Carriages are all potential starters for Waterhouse in the 2015 Golden Slipper.
Two-year-old filly Flamboyant Lass will head to the Golden Slipper via the $1 million Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at the end of February after winning the Hyland Race Colours Handicap (1000m) on Saturday at Royal Randwick.
Flamboyant Lass had great speed out the gates to lead, holding onto a ½ length margin at the point of the bend. She left the fence up the rise before kicking away with 300 metres to go. The filly put a gap on her rivals to win by three and a half lengths.
“I’m going to the Blue Diamond with [Flamboyant Lass],” Waterhouse told The Sydney Morning Herald.
“She’ll head down on Thursday of this week. The other filly Giulietta … there’s not much between either filly. They’re both very progressive and very smart fillies. I’m not sure if she will go to the Blue Diamond, but I’ll look at the horses this week and get my mind in order.”
Giulietta may line-up with her stable mate in the 2015 Blue Diamond Stakes but would require a $55,000 late-entry fee after bypassing the Magic Millions.
The filly is a $17 hopeful in the Golden Slipper betting at Ladbrokes.com.au following a dominant win in the TAB Place Multi Plate (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on January 3. The filly got brilliantly away and led clearly in the early stages before steadying the tempo and travelling well in front. She dashed clear to pass the 300 metre mark and went on to win by two and a half lengths.
Giulietta will next be seen in the Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m) on January 31.
Vancouver ($13) leads Waterhouse’s Golden Slipper charge after winning the Listed Thoroughbred Breeders’ Plate (1000m) back in October but $2 million Magic Millions Classic (1200m) eighth Carriages ($51) shouldn’t be ruled out.
“I could have six in there and it’s a particularly smart team … there are some really nice horses coming up too,” Waterhouse said.
“Vancouver should head the team. You can’t take Carriages out of it either. I know she hasn’t got the money because she has only got Magic Millions money, but when she comes back from a very short let-up I think you will be surprised by what she can do as she is a very good filly.”
Rounding out Waterhouse’s betting prospects for the 2015 Golden Slipper are Pierrette ($34) and Flamboyant Lass ($51).
