13 talented horses will tackle the sprint-mile distance of the Listed Chester Manifold Stakes (1400m) on Saturday after final acceptances were taken on Wednesday morning.
The $120,000 Chester Manifold Stakes in the feature race running at Flemington Racecourse this weekend, for which the Lee & Anthony Freedman-trained Reparations is the headliner.
The six-year-old gelding will carry the top weight of 60kg in the race, jump from barrier four with Dwayne Dunn in the saddle.
Reparations has had his share of black-type race success, including winning the Listed Thoroughbred Club Cup (1440m) at Caulfield in May last year. The gelding delivered a disappointing result the following month in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m), running 15th of 18.
After five months in the spelling paddock, Reparations returned to win the Listed MSS Security Sprint (1200m) on November 4 before finishing third in the Group 3 Standish Handicap (1200m) two months later. Both successes came at Flemington and he’ll look to continue his winning form on Saturday.
The Freedman’s face some tough competition for the 2015 Chester Manifold Stakes crown from the likes of Lord Of The Sky, Aeronautical, Tried And Tired, and Decircles to name a few.
Robbie Laing’s Lord Of The Sky will jump midfield from barrier six with Patrick Moloney to ride. The four-year-old horse just missed out on placings in races like the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) and Listed Doveton Stakes (1000m) before of late has finished runner-up in both the Listed Christmas Stakes (1200m) and Standish Handicap.
All in all there are six horses coming via the 2015 Standish Handicap on New Year’s Day, including winner Decircles.
The Danny O’Brien-trained gelding worked over the wide draw to be sitting on the leader (Lord Of The Sky). He had to chase the leader down but grabbed him 50 metres out and drew away.
This was the six-year-olds first black-type race win, and he is due to jump from barrier three on Saturday.
Tried And Tired has scored the ideal inside start from barrier one in his quest to win the Chester Manifold Stakes with Damien Oliver to serve as hoop. The Leon and Troy Corstens-trained gelding is a last start winner of the Christmas Stakes, winning one and three quarter lengths clear of rivals Lord Of The Sky and Go The Knuckle.
Gerald Ryan’s Red Excitement is at his career best after winning his past four starts, including the Drummond Golf Handicap (1400m), but will have to overcome a start from barrier 12 in his first black-type race in over two years.
