2015 Takeover Target Stakes Tips & Selections

Gosford Cup Day kicks off the weekend’s summer racing action today with three stakes features including the Takeover Target Stakes 2015 – betting tips for late afternoon clash found right here.

There are a dozen sprinters making up this year’s $100,000 Listed De Bortoli Wines Takeover Target Stakes (1200m) field, the race running as the fifth on a short seven-event program at 5:25pm (AEDT).

Leading the latest Takeover Target Stakes betting odds at Ladbrokes.com.au at a short $2.50 is the Joe Pride-trained Dubawi four-year-old Ball Of Muscle coming off a second in the Listed Canterbury Classic (1200m).

In that December 27 clash the beaten favourite was run down in the final stride but jockey Glyn Schofield, replacing Jason Collett, won’t be letting that happen again today with the gelding shooting for his third run from four starts this time in.

Ball Of Muscle’s biggest dangers in the Takeover Target Stakes betting markets this afternoon are then the Canterbury Classic winner Barbed ($5) with a kilo extra (55kg) for the rematch and a wide barrier 11 draw, the fellow John O’Shea-trained Miniature ($8) and market mover Cradle Me in from $10 to $8.

So will the favourite salute for the Takeover Target Stakes punters or is there an upset result on the card?

#5 Ball Of Muscle ($2.50)

Is hard to go past the favourite in this even after he was beaten as the shortie in the markets last time out. Will be contesting the classy 59kg top weight Howmuchdoyouloveme ($26) for the lead and will be right up there with the rest of the field chasing. Was gallant in the Canterbury Classic when nosed out of the win late, something he’ll be out to atone for here as he shoots for another Gosford win. Distance is good (3-1-1-1), won three other starts before the Listed loss on December 27 and from barrier five with Schofield on the 54kg minimum is the one to beat.

#7 Haussmann ($13)

One of three in the race for Godolphin’s private trainer John O’Shea, this Commands five-year-old looked improved at Rosehill on December 20 when winning a restricted 1300m race with 56kg from gate one. Here he gets 54kg but is up in class, getting another shot from the inside alley this time with Tommy Berry aboard. Can surprise.

#4 Barbed ($5)

Got out from behind Ball Of Muscle in the last few metres to win the Canterbury Classic last time out and is looking for another win. He goes up a kilo and is drawn wide (11) for the rematch but still can’t be discounted or ignored for top three.
