Today on New South Wales’s Central Coast Gosford Cup Day provides a top day’s racing action including the Belle Of The Turf Stakes 2015 for fillies and mares, betting tips for which are detailed below.
There are just eight left in contention for this year’s $1250,000 Group 3 Gosford RSL Belle Of The Turf Stakes (1600m), running as Gosford Race 4 at 4:45pm (AEDT), following two early withdrawals.
John McNair has withdrawn Miss Espresso (barrier two) while Chris Waller won’t run the 59kg top weight She’s Clean (barrier four) who is also a scratching from the Belle Of The Turf Stakes field.
Betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au have now firmed on the remaining runners with the big market mover and race favourite being Peace Force ($3.20).
Drawn in gate two for jockey Brenton Avdulla, Gerald Ryan’s smart Bernardini five-year-old shoots for her fourth win on the trot today following some ace lead-up form in Sydney over the past couple of months.
Peace Force has won at Kensington (1550m), Randwick (1400m) and most recently Canterbury (1550m) on December 27 in her three most recent runs with Avdulla in the saddle for all three.
She’s also been carting around big weights to victory including last time out in a fillies-and-mares’ Benchmark 80 with 60kg making her hard to beat with 55.5kg from barrier three today.
Her biggest dangers in a wide open market are then considered to be the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained recent Rosehill winner Commanding Wit ($4.60) and Anthony Cummings’ Fastnet Rock four-year-old Mary Lou ($5) on the rails coming off a 1400m win from Royal Randwick on December 26.
So are these three the ones to lock into your Belle Of The Turf Stakes trifecta?
Or is there value to be found tipping an upset from the likes of new 57kg top weight Myamira ($6) or Mamwaazel ($6)?
#3 Peace Force ($3.20)
Really is hard to go past the favourite who has everything working in her favour here including the three lead-up wins on the trot. Is in flying form, Avdulla stays on after riding her for her hat-trick of wins since November, barrier three will suit to a tee and she drops back from 60kg to 55.5kg which is the lightest she’s carried for a while. Winning over 1550m so extra 50m is also a non-issue, don’t look anywhere else for the win.
#2 Myamira ($6)
Rodney Northam’s now six-year-old won this race 12 months ago and while she’s carrying the 57kg this year her form suggests she can be competitive again at a track she’s undefeated at. Has had two Gosford runs for two wins and is after the third here after a fourth last time out at Randwick on Boxing Day. Was beaten under a length that day but did only have 52.5kg giving her a fair bit more to lump around here. Before that she ran fifth in the Mudgee Cup with 61.5kg so she knows what kilos are about, is Group 1 performed and distance is good (13-4-2-1).
#6 Mamwaazel ($6)
Chris Waller scratched his other hope so relies on this Exceed And Excel four-year-old to get the job done. She comes off back-to-back seconds behind Peace Force when beaten two lengths over 1400m at Randwick before improving to run only a nose off her over 1550m at Canterbury last time out. She had 59kg that day and gets the weight relieve again dropping to the 54kg minimum with Glyn Schofield to ride from barrier six.
