2015 Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap Final Field Released

A maximum field of 16 fillies and mares will battle it out for the $200,000 prize money in the Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap (1300m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Chris Waller’s Champagne Cath and Lacey Morrison’s Tukiyo share the top spot, each carrying the top weight of 59kg.

Four-year-old mare Champagne Cath finished third in the Group 2 Red Lea Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) at the beginning of the autumn campaign last year before finishing outside the placings in his three following starts.

After eight months in the spelling paddock, the mare returned in the Schweppes Handicap (1300m) at Rosehill Gardens on December 20 in which she was a fast finishing runner-up to Haussmann.

Champagne Cath will jump from barrier six with Blake Shinn in the saddle while Tukiyo will start from the next gate out.

The five-year-old mare has won two of her five starts this campaign and finished fourth in another two, including the Listed Travel Associates Classic (1200m) at Doomben Racecourse in November.

Gillian Heinrich will deliver a dual-pronged attack on the 2015 Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap after accepting with both Pure Reality and Zippity Lass.

Five-year-old Pure Reality will jump from barrier nine while Zippity Lass is due to start from barrier 13.

The Kelly Schweida-trained Discreet hasn’t had a win since the Madame Wu Handicap (1200m) back in July and has finished outside the placings in all six of her starts since then, including end of the field placings in the Travel Associates Classic and Listed Just Now Quality.

The mare will jump from barrier four with Brad Stewart to ride while Travel Associates Classic minor placer Play Time will start from the next gate over with Ric McMahon as hoop.
