After an ideal barrier six draw the Tony Gollan-trained filly Hijack Hussy has retained her spot at the top of the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas 2015 odds for Saturday’s Gold Coast feature.
The daughter of Hussonet has no excuses this time out when she gets back up to her pet distance for the $1 million Jeep Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) on the weekend.
She currently sits at a firming $3.50, in from $3.60, through Ladbrokes.com.au in their Magic Millions Guineas betting markets to return to the winners’ stall after going down as the beaten short-priced favourite in her two most recent runs.
She won the Listed Lexus Hybrid Plate (1400m) at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day, her second 1400m win following a victory at the Gold Coast over the distance the month before, before her third in the Mode Stakes (1200) and Doomben and last start second in the Group 3 Vo Rogue over 1300m on December 27.
That Gold Coast run was her second at the track she returns to this weekend with Gollan confident she’ll be back to her best stepping back to 1400m with Timothy Bell staying on for the ride.
Just three of her rivals in the capacity field, which now features the first emergency She’s Miss Divine following the early withdrawal of the Peter Moody-trained Herstory who had the second widest barrier, are also at single figures to win.
The second line of betting is occupied by the Gary Portelli-trained Sydney visitor Testashadow ($7) out in barrier 13.
A son of Testa Rossa the gelding has won two of his nine starts to date most recently enjoying the 1400m at Rosehill on December 20 for a narrow victory carrying 59kg, two kilos more than his allocation under the set weights plus penalties conditions of Saturday.
The two other single figure hopes in the markets are then equal $8 third favourites Echo Gal and Aerobar drawn in barriers nine and four respectively.
Gai Waterhouse’s Stratum filly Echo Gal will be ridden by Tommy Berry here after the pair ran second behind fellow Magic Millions 3YO Guineas hopeful Aerobar in the Wyong Magic Millions 3YO Stakes (1200m) on December 18.
One and a quarter lengths separated the two that day and on Saturday the Gerald Ryan-trained winner Aerobar, ridden once again by James McDonald, will shoot for back-to-back wins.
At longer prices but still in with a shot at the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas trophy this year are then the likes of the rails-drawn Cyclone ($11) coming off a Wyong Magic Millions Stakes third, Chris Waller’s last start Randwick winner over the distance from Boxing Day Liberty Island ($11) and the David Payne-trained colt Bold Circle ($13) who has barrier 17 to overcome following a win from gate four at Randwick on New Year’s Day.
