Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Adam Durrant’s in-form mare Real Charm is dominating 2014 Starstruck Classic betting for the handicap clash running on Perth’s CB Cox Stakes Day program this weekend.
Drawn mid-field in barrier six, the four-year-old daughter of Reset is one of 12 milers facing off in the $100,000 Listed Starstruck Classic (1600m) on Saturday.
Young Group 1 winning hoop William Pike boasts a strong book of rides for the latest Perth Summer Racing Carnival race day including Real Charm in Race 6, who he rode to victory here in the Listed Jungle Dawn Classic (1400m) on December 6.
That was Real Charm’s second win on the trot following a 1500m effort here with Paul Harvey in the saddle on November 29, the two weeks between runs this time giving her the perfect chance to re-gather and shoot for another victory.
There is no knocking the form for the $2.50 favourite in the Starstruck Classic betting odds at Ladbrokes.com.au, but she does have to rise two kilos from 55kg to 57kg.
There are then three other single figure hopes in the field with:
- #1 Miss Rose De Lago ($4.60) – The 59kg top weight, Simon Miller’s four-year-old Encosta De Lago mare ran third to Real Charm last time out when beaten only a quarter length in the Jungle Dawn. Before that she was fourth to Black Heart Bart in the Carbine Club of WA Stakes. She’s got a great record at the track & distance (2-1-1-0) and should be hitting her peak a few runs in. The weight is the only worry.
- #2 Antique Belle ($5.50) – Nice barrier three draw for the next heaviest-weighted runner (58.5kg), Peter Hall riding the Redoute’s Choice five-year-old in the place of Pike. Pike won the Jungle Mist with this mare two back and then was in the saddle for her latest run a fortnight ago when three lengths away third to Watermans Bay and Winterbottom winner Magnifisio in the Group 3 AJ Scahill Stakes (1400m).
- #4 Need A Lift ($6) – Jumps one inside of Antique Belle from gate two looking to go one better than her second to Real Charm in the Jungle Dawn. This five-year-old has been performing well in non-black types before stepping up that run and can be competitive again from a better barrier and only going up half a kilo to 55.5kg so still weighted within her ability.
The next best in betting are then the Justin Warwick-trained Songburg ($15) coming off a Jungle Dawn sixth, fourth placegetter in that same lead-up Vampi Lass ($15) and Dubawi four-year-old Fast Flowing ($16).
