2014 Wyong Magic Millions 3YO Stakes Tips

This afternoon in Sydney a field of three-year-olds Magic Millions graduates face off at Wyong Racecourse in the Wyong Magic Millions 3YO Stakes 2014, betting tips for the set weights clash detailed below.

Gai Waterhouse

Jumping as Race 4 at 3:23pm (AEDT), the field for this year’s $100,000 Wyong Magic Millions 3YO Stakes (1200m) is down to nine runners after Gerald Ryan scratched his runner Tetsuko yesterday.

Current Wyong Magic Millions 3YO Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au are firmly led by the market mover Echo Gal who has been backed in from her opening price of $2.50.

A top chance for the $1 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) at the Gold Coast on January 10 also, Gai Waterhouse’s progressive daughter of Stratum is racing here off a two month freshen-up and dominating the markets.

Her biggest dangers to posting a maiden win since September are the rails-drawn Choice We Had ($3.30) coming off a Newcastle win and Ballarat Magic Millions 3YO Classic winner Murt The Flirt ($5.50).

So will the top three in betting run the Wyong Magic Millions Stakes trifecta this afternoon? Or is there an upset result on the cards for one of the two feature races on the program?

Our 2014 Wyong Magic Millions 3YO Stakes Trifecta Tip is #6 Echo Gal from #2 Murt The Flirt and #1 Cyclone

1st

#6 Echo Gal ($2.50)

This Group 1 performed filly is the deserving favourite and from her nice draw (three into two) she’s going to hit the front and jockey Tommy Berry will be trying to keep her there. She’s got class and will be hard to beat here fresh off a break following her fifth against the older mares in the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on October 4. She’s a gun first-up with two wins from three starts including a victory over older rivals last time she resumed at Canterbury. Also won a Randwick trail at the start of this month so lots to like.

2nd

#2 Murt The Flirt ($5.50)

Brendan McCarthy’s gelding was super impressive on debut winning the Magic Millions 3YO Classic over 1100m at Ballarat last month and should be improving off that run where he beat home Boundary by a length. McCarthy uses the services of local hoop Brenton Avdulla for today’s race, the duo to jump from barrier seven. Can win from that gate if produces the same form as first-up.

3rd

#1 Cyclone ($10)

Big market drifter out from $6.50 but think there’s still value here worth considering. The Bjorn Baker-trained Sebring gelding won first-up at Canterbury over 1250m before going up to 1400m for his next two runs, the most recent of which was a distant eighth at Kensington. Has class and think dropping back in distance is a top three chance and could surprise a few.
