There are 12 two-year-old fillies in the mix for this year’s $100,000 Listed Yatala Pies Calaway Gal Stakes (1050m) that jumps as Race 4 at 2:45pm (local).

Leading Calaway Gal Stakes betting at at $4.60 is Flamenco Girl drawn nicely in barrier two for jockey Michael Cahill.

The Danny Bougoure-trained daughter of Snitzel caught the eye at the Sunshine Coast on debut when beating Lady Sniper by half a length, an effort she’s out to repeat over 50m more in her big city debut on Saturday.

The other single figure hopes in the Calaway Gal Stakes odds include the unraced Attrente ($5), market mover Sweet Repeat ($5.50) and the Tony Gollan-trained Supersay ($7) coming off a win at Toowoomba over this distance from November 22.

So should you back these top hopes in the markets? Or look for value when placing your Calaway Gal Stakes bets this year?

#1 Sweet Repeat ($5.50)

Good barrier five draw for Ross Coveney’s in-form Toowoomba visitor, the Teranaba filly coming off back-to-back wins. The first was up home over 870m in October before she flew home by 2.3 lengths over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast on November 30 leading up to her Doomben debut. She’s proven on Soft going too, her latest win being on a Soft (7) which is what it’s currently rated in Brisbane for the weekend’s racing.

#4 St Remy ($10)

Good value on this Noel Doyle-trained Star Witness filly who won on debut at the Gold Coast on November 29 in a 900m 2YO Maiden race run on a Soft (7). She’s up in Brisbane for the first time then here but showed good potential in that opening race to suggest another good run here on another rain-affected track.

#5 Star Of Night ($9)

Star Of Night ran second behind St Remy for her first run at the Gold Coast beaten a length with improvement to come. Showed she could handle the give out of the track and so will be out to do the same again this time round in the rematch over a little more distance.
