2014 Phelan Ready Stakes Tips & Selections

Brisbane’s Doomben Racecourse will host a bumper day of black type racing on Saturday including the Phelan Ready Stakes 2014, betting tips for the two-year-old colts and geldings’ showdown detailed below.

Wicked Intent

Eleven juveniles make-up the field for this year’s $100,000 Listed Morgans Seafood Phelan Ready Stakes (1050m) that serves as a nice lead-up into the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) on the Gold Coast next month for eligible Magic Millions graduates.

Leading the Phelan Ready Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au, and their futures Magic Millions Classic odds, is Wicked Intent at an odds-on price of $1.60 for the weekend.

Barry Mitchell’s promising Wicked Style colt jumps from an ideal barrier four draw with Chris Munce aboard and comes off back-top-back wins including over this track and distance a fortnight ago.

So can Wicked Intent get the job done again retaining his undefeated status and his position at the top of the Magic Millions 2YO Classic markets?

Or is there an upset Phelan Ready Stakes result on the card from the likes of market mover It’s Vegas Baby ($6), the rails-drawn Mishani Di Caprio ($8.50) or even the Tony Gollan-trained Shipwrecked who has been backed in from $13 to $10 to win second-up.

1st

#2 Wicked Intent ($1.60)

Deserving favourite and despite his short price really can’t back against him. Heads towards the MM Classic where he could be very hard to beat again if he can prove himself this weekend in his first stakes assignment. Drawn ideally (4) and Brisbane’s best Munce stays on after winning on him over this track and distance by an all-too-easy 4.5 lengths on November 29. Flying home that day on a Soft (5) and Doomben is going to be in that range, if not a bit softer, this Saturday again so conditions are just another thing to suit.

2nd

#1 Mishani Di Caprio ($8.50)

Les Ross’s Teofilo gelding won twice last month including over the 1050m here on November 8 in a nice 1.3 length performance. Third to Wicked Intent for his Doomben win on November 29 then was on the short back-up when up over 1200m her last Saturday running second to Mishani Honcho. He handled the seven day turnaround well, beaten only a long neck, and must race for the third time in as many weeks for this so will be rock hard fit and finishing close from the inside alley if he handles the track conditions.

3rd

#3 It’s Vegas Baby ($6)

Early money came for Brad Herne’s progressive son of Beneteau drawn in gate two for the weekend. Debuted on the Gold Coast in mid-November when runner-up to Mishani Di Caprio, who he faces again here. Then won a Deagon trial on December 2 to bring him on for this where, with Brad Stewart aboard, he’ll be looking to make another impression up over a little more distance.
