A near-maximum capacity field of runners will contest the race after Rosey Joan was scratched, leaving 15 fillies and mares.

Just four of those runners are offering single figure odds in the betting market at, led by Commanding Wit at $3.20.

The Peter & Paul Snowden-trained five-year-old mare will jump midfield from barrier seven with Larry Cassidy in the saddle. While Commanding Wit is making her first Queensland start in the 2014 Just Now Quality, she is well suited at the distance. The mare won well her last time out in a Benchmark 85 over 1350 metres however it was in weaker company.

The mare has finished first and second her first two times over the distance and has placed in 13 of her 17 career starts. However she faces some tough competition for the Just Now Quality title, including three other single figure hopefuls.

  • #1 Tinto ($6) – The Rex Lipp-trained four-year-old will carry the top weight of 59.5kg, at least five kilograms more than her rivals, but it hasn’t stopped Tinto from being on the second line of betting. A winner of the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) back in May, the mare proved she was just as successful in sprint races when she finished runner-up in the Listed Travel Associates Classic (1200m) on Saturday, just half a length behind winner Brook Road.
  • #5 Queen Of The Lochs ($8)Mick Mair’s grey mare will jump from barrier two with Tegan Harrison in the saddle, carrying the minimum weight of 54kg. Queen Of The Lochs has finished in the first three her last three successive times out, all fillies and mares handicaps at Doomben Racecourse. Is the market mover of the field after shortening from $8.50.
  • #4 Elusive Storm ($9)Brian Smith’s six-year-old mare will jump from barrier nine with Samuel Payne in the saddle. Has plenty of experience over the track and distance of the Just Now Quality and finished just one and a half lengths off Brook Road in the Travel Associates Classic last time out.

The Todd Austin-trained Playtime has scored the inside run from barrier one with Ric McMahon in the saddle and is paying $11 to win on Saturday.
