After winning the Group 3 Queen’s Cup (2200m) on Saturday, it’s not hard to imagine Real Love will be favourite for the 2015 Perth Cup when the betting market opens at Ladbrokes.com.au.
The four-year-old mare is in great form, having finished in the first three in all seven of her last starts. This campaign alone has seen some outstanding results from the Adam Durrant-trained galloper.
Real Love finished less than a length off winner Kheleva in the Myer Spring Fashion Trophy (1400m) first up before winning the Next Saturday Handicap (1500m) by an easy two lengths on November 15. He once again ran second in the Listed Carbine Club Of WA Stakes (1400m) and then superbly won the Queen’s Cup on Saturday by two and a half lengths.
“She will raise the bar for the stayers. She’s got a few lengths on these,” trainer Adam Durrant told Perth Racing after Saturday’s win.
The mare will continue to strengthen her claim on the Group 2 Perth Cup (2400m) on January 1 with breeder-owner Bob Peters contemplating one more preparation run on December 20.
Peters must choose between the Group 2 CB Cox Stakes (2100m) worth a total $250,000 and the Listed WA St Leger (2100m) worth $100,000.
“I’ll toss up on that later on,” Peters said.
“We’ll have Elite Belle for the Cox Stakes anyway. Respondent will possibly go to the St Leger, but I’m not sure yet.
“Real Love and Real Charm were very good on Saturday. Real Love was hard and fit and she really trimmed up from her previous run.
“We’ve had a strong year on the black-type side.
“We’ve always been strong in the autumn and looked promising for the summer but haven’t got the results.
“We made some changes to our business plan and it seems to be working.”
Bob and his wife Sandra have won 10 of the 24 black-type races they’ve entered this season.
