Two-year-old filly Racy was the favourite to win the Pro Ride Plate (1000m) at Warwick Farm this afternoon, with odds of $4 at Ladbrokes.com.au.
She easily justified her favouritism, winning one length clear of runner-up Look To The Stars in her debut race with Savannah Rose two lengths behind in third place.
Immediately following the win trainer Gary Portelli told TVN of his plans to take Racy up to the Gold Coast on January 10 for the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m).
“The plan was to go to the sales and buy a two-year-old that we could take back for the Magic Millions,” Portelli explained after the race.
“She quickly went to $150,000 but they told me to keep going and take her home if I really liked her, so she eventually cost us $180,000.
“She has always shown us a lot of ability but she’s been very wayward, but starting to get it right now.”
Racy is a $17 shot in the 2015 Magic Millions 2YO Classic betting at Ladbrokes.com.au alongside Backstab and Lightning Rock.
Joshua Parr rode Racy to her win at Warwick Farm and had nothing but praise for the filly following the race.
“I know that they have a good opinion of her with some fairly lofty plans, but she was very, very good today,” he said.
“It’s onwards and upwards for her now.”
The 2015 Magic Millions Carnival on January 10 offers nine different races with prize money totaling $4.7 million.
The race with the most lucrative prize pool is the Magic Millions 2YO Classic, for which Wicked Intent is the early favourite ($6) after winning his two career starts including the Breakfast Creek Hotel QTIS (1050m) by an astounding four and a half lengths.
