Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
The Listed Aquanita Stakes (1800m) is one of six black-type races running in support of the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) on Saturday at Ascot Racecourse.
12 potential stayers are set to tackle the 1800 metre distance race, giving punters a variety of betting options and chance to back a winner.
Just three of the 12 three-year-olds are offering single figure odds in the Aquanita Stakes betting market at Ladbrokes.com.au, led by firm favourite Say Geronimo at $2.90.
The Wally Mitchell-trained colt will jump from barrier eight with Patrick Carbery. He was very solid in the Group 2 WA Guineas (1600m) last time out, finishing just under two lengths behind Rommel and Disposition in third place, and appears even better suited at this distance even though it’s his first time running past the mile.
With Rommel and Disposition both contesting the feature race on Saturday, Say Geronimo’s form from the Guineas has held up.
Tonto is on the second line of betting ($3.80) after a solid run in the WA Guineas, finishing just under five lengths behind the winner in sixth place. The gelding has won half of his eight career starts including a benchmark 62 over the mile. He’ll get to finally run at what may be his perfect distance in the 2014 Aquanita Stakes and get a good start to the race from barrier three under Jason Whiting. He will carry the top weight of 57.5kg but this is in line with the weight he carried when winning the Festival Of Perth Racing Handicap (1400m) in October.
The final single figure hopeful in the Aquanita Stakes betting is Daniel Morton’s Orright ($8) – the market mover of the field.
The lightly-run colt has only made two career starts to date, running fifth his first time out before winning his maiden on November 27. Orright will carry 56kg and jump from barrier 10 with Douglas Whyte.
Of course there are also a number of horses offering lucrative double figure odds that could easily win the 2014 Aquanita Stakes, including Group 3 WA Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) runner-up Dancing Express ($13) and last start winner Fo’ Shizzle ($11) who will enjoy the inside run after jumping from barrier one.
