Tonto Leads 2014 Aquanita Stakes Nominations

The Listed Aquanita Stakes (1800m) is one of six black-type races running at Ascot Racecourse this Saturday, offering potential stayers the chance to run over the mile.

13 three-year-olds were nominated for the race on Tuesday morning, with Lou Luciani’s Tonto leading the field at a top weight of 57.5kg.

The gelding has won four of his eight career starts but failed to finish in the placings in any of the other four. This campaign alone Tonto won back to back in the Westspeed 3YO Handicap (1300m) at Belmont and Festival Of Perth Racing Handicap (1400m) at Ascot, which he won by a mere fraction.

Tonto then made the step up to black-type racing in the Listed Fairetha Stakes (1400m) against the likes of Disposition and Rommel, who are both running in the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) on Saturday. He finished just a neck off a placing in fourth place, however the run did help his form line.

He faced the two heavyweights again in the Group 2 WA Guineas (1600m), finishing under five lengths off winner Rommel in sixth place.

Neville Parnham’s Dancing Express is nominated for both the Aquanita Stakes and Group 3 Sir Ernest Lee-Steere Classic (1400m) on Saturday. The filly was runner-up in the Group 3 WA Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) two starts ago before failing to make anything of the main event one week later. She finished nearly seven lengths behind the winner Rommel in the WA Guineas. She will carry the minimum weight of 54kg, half a kilo less than her allocated weight in the 2014 Sir Ernest Lee-Steere Classic.

Parnham has also nominated Top Show for the 2014 Aquanita Stakes. He is not the only trainer delivering a dual-pronged attack on the race, both Darren Mcauliffe and Trevor Andrews have dually nominated too.

Mcauliffe is due to saddle Military Ruler and Fo’ Shizzle while Andrews will look to have both Palace Intruder and Boom Time feature in the final field.

Check out the full list of 2014 Aquanita Stakes nominations below before the final field is released on Thursday.

The betting market for the race will open shortly afterwards at Ladbrokes.com.au so make sure your online betting account is ready to go to get the best odds available. New customers will also receive up to $100 in a bonus match on their first bet.
