Capacity Field for 2014 Travel Associates Classic

The Listed Travel Associates Classic (1200m), running at Doomben Racecourse this Saturday, is set to be an action packed race after a maximum capacity field accepted for the sprint race on Wednesday.

Tinto will carry the top weight of 59.5kg in the Travel Associates Classic this Saturday, for which a capacity field has accepted.

16 fillies and mares plus five emergencies featured in the final field released on Wednesday morning, headlined by Tinto.

The Rex Lipp-trained mare will carry the sole top weight of 59.5kg, up to four kilos more than his rivals, but will enjoy a good start from barrier three with apprentice jockey Bridget Grylls in the saddle.

The four-year-old outclasses her rivals, having won at the highest level back in May after taking out the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m), which followed two more black-type race placings.

Tinto has proven she’s a winning middle-distance runner but will now return to the 1200 metre sprint distance that plagued her at the beginning of her career. The mare began her career with a win in the Sky Racing 2YO Plate (1200m) back in March last year before missing out on a placing in her following five starts less than the mile. She went on to finish second in a Toowoomba Handicap over 1100m earlier this year but history shows she’s better over 1800 metres or longer.

The Kelly Schweida-trained Discreet and Lacey Morrison-trained Tukiyo are the only other runners carrying more than the minimum weight of 55.5kg. Both mares will ride one kilo over at 56.5kg.

Discreet will jump from barrier 10 while last start winner Tukiyo is set to jump from barrier eight.

Both Tony Gollan and Matthew Dunn are set to deliver a dual-pronged attack on the race, with both trainers having two horses in the race.

Gollan will be represented by Tear It Up and Faith’n’courage while Dunn will saddle Beach Babe and Darcey.

Five-year-old mare Tear It Up won a Class 6 Plate over 1200 metres ahead of her stable mate Faith’n’courage, who ran second, on the course proper on November 1. She is set to jump from barrier nine while Faith’n’courage drew wide in barrier 19 but will come in five gates if all emergencies are scratched.

Beach Babe has finished in the placings her last three times out, all of which were at Doomben over 1200 metres. The mare will jump from 17 (into 13) while Darcey drew barrier 11.

Elusive Storm, one of three New Zealand imports in the race, has scored the ideal inside run from barrier one with Eddie Wilkinson in the saddle.

The six-year-old has finished in the first three in all three of her starts this campaign, including a win over 2014 Travel Associates Classic rival Beach Babe in the Bartons Bayside Handicap (1110m) on October 11.
