2015 Magic Millions 3YO Guineas Queen on Show

Randwick-based trainer John Sargent will put the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas 2014 credentials of his promising filly Queen Of Kariba on the line when she runs at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday.

The race card in Sydney for ATC Cup Day is highlighted by three black type features but an important support race at the meeting will be the $85,000 3YO Benchmark 72 Handicap (1200m).

While on paper the race doesn’t shape up to be much, some promising youngsters will be on show in the event including Sargent’s Lonhro filly.

Queen Of Kariba has won two of her four career starts to date and is being considered for a trip to Queensland next year for a shot at the $1 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) at the Gold Coast on January 10.

Last seen running fifth behind Vanilla Princess in the McGrath Estate Agents Handicap (1200m) against the older mares at Randwick on November 4, she was beaten only 1.4 lengths that day on the back of a Class 1 win at Newcastle from September.

She’s been tested in Group 3 company once when a disappointing ninth to Eloping in the Keith MacKay (1200m) back in April, something Sargent hopes she can improve on looking towards the summer – autumn riches.

“She worked well this morning over 800 metres and should be in the finish this weekend,” he told Racenet on Tuesday.

Also running in Saturday’s race against Queen Of Kariba will be the Ron Quinton-trained I Am Invincible gelding I Am Impressed.

Lightly raced having had just the two starts to date, most recently a last-to-first win over 1250m at Canterbury in mid-May, the youngster impressed Quinton with a superb piece of work on Tuesday morning ahead of his three-year-old debut.

Posting a time of 37.5 seconds for his final 600m, and 11.8 seconds over the last 200m, I Am Impressed looks set for his return with plenty of improvement to come.

“He went good and does have ability,” Quinton said.

“He’ll be better second-up but he’s come back a stronger horse.”

If all goes to plan and he produces the goods on Saturday, I Am Impressed will be set for a big summer campaign that could also include a trip to Queensland.
