Classy Sprinters Make Up 2014 Starlight Stakes Nominations

A top line-up of sprinters is nominated for this Saturday’s Starlight Stakes 2014 at Rosehill Gardens as the Sydney Summer Racing Carnival gets underway.

Three black types highlight the card including the $100,000 Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m) where 19 early entries make up the nominations, extended until 11am (AEDT) on Tuesday, for the opening leg of the five-race summer sprint series.

A host of last start winners are nominated for this year’s Starlight Stakes including the Gerald Ryan-trained Dothraki.

The Mossman four-year-old, winner of the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) back in May, has had two runs at Rosehill this time in for two top two finishes.

The latest was a win over the track and distance when carrying 60kg, an effort connections are hoping the gelding repeats on the weekend.

“This is going to be a really good race — I reckon there should be a bonus on the end of the sprint series for the best performed horse,” Ryan said of the Starlight Stakes.

Coming off a run behind Dothraki in the Cellarbrations Whyte & Gilmour Handicap meanwhile is the David Payne-trained runner-up Goldstone, the veteran Shamardal seven-year-old having had a massive weight advantage (52kg) in that run.

Other last start winners include the Joe Pride-trained Lonhro four-year-old Diamond Oasis after his fourth from five runs this time in and the Team Hawkes-trained Our Boy Malachi who beat Zaratone first-up on November 1 here.

Also in the mix are Cradle Me for David Pfieffer – the Easy Rocking mare coming off a fifth to Vain Queen in the Group 3 G.H. Mumm Stakes (1100m) from Crown Oaks Day at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup Carnival, multiple Group 1 performer Aeronautical, the Peter Moody-trained Ready To Rip and Newcastle’s Testarhythm.

See below for the official Starlight Stakes 2014 nominations, the Rosehill race fields for the weekend due out on Wednesday.
