Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Perth-based trainer Darren McAuliffe will be represented in both the Group 2 WA Guineas (1600m) and Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) on Super Saturday at Ascot Racecourse.
The three-year-old filly is a $12 shot in the Ladbrokes.com.au betting market after her price drifted out from $9 but McAuliffe is confident she’ll run well in the race, despite stepping up from the 1200 metre distance of the Good Different Handicap (1200m) just seven days later.
“I don’t think it will bother her, she has pulled up extremely well and she has been trained to run the mile,” McAuliffe told Perth Racing.
“Obviously you don’t know if she will run the mile until she runs it, she’s not the only one in that boat.
“She will give them something to chase, and it will add another dimension to the race on Saturday.”
Furious Dame is due to jump from barrier four of fifteen in the WA Guineas, which the trainer described as “perfect”. He believes all the winning chances for the race have drawn inside his filly, which means she’ll be able to overtake them down the outside.
Those running on the inside of Furious Dame include the Lou Luciani-trained Tonto (1), unbeaten four time starter Disposition (2), and Listed Fairetha Stakes (1400m) third placer Cuanzo (3).
Furious Dame is in-form ahead of Saturday’s race following a runner-up finish in the Westspeed 3YO Handicap (1200m) first up this campaign followed by back-to-back wins in the Bunbury Motel Maiden (1300m), in which she blitzed the large field to win by over four lengths, as well as the Good Different Handicap.
The filly has also won her last two barrier trials, which means she hasn’t finished outside the first two since April.
The WA Guineas will be the mare’s first run over the mile after tacking spring races in her five previous starts, but McAuliffe doesn’t think this will be an issue.
The first five place-getters from both the Fairetha Stakes and Group 3 WA Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) are all running in the 2014 WA Guineas, which means it’s sure to be an exciting ‘Grand Finale’ for a great crop of Perth three-year-olds.
Disposition is the short-priced $2.30 favourite for the race at Ladbrokes.com.au followed by Outlaw Pete ($5.50) and Tonto ($9).
