2014 WA Guineas betting odds are now out ahead of the feature race for three-year-olds in Perth on the weekend and the clear favourite to win is the Grant Williams-trained Disposition.
The Reset gelding is one of 15 gallopers making up the field for Saturday’s $400,000 Group 2 Sky Racing W.A. Guineas (1600m), the set weights clash due to jump at 3:15pm (local) as Ascot Race 6 on Railway Stakes Day.
Drawn ideally in barrier two with the state’s top hoop William Pike booked for the ride, Disposition has opened the $2.40 favourite to win in the Winterbottom Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au.
He is looking to not only salute for the punters but to also retain his undefeated status having won all four of his previous starts including back-to-back Black Types this time in.
Two back he won the Listed Belgravia Stakes (1200m) on October 18 before returning to Ascot on November 8 to take out the Listed Fairetha Stakes (1400m) in his first run at that distance.
Despite the bumper field there are just two other single figure hopes in the current WA Guineas odds with market mover Outlaw Pete ($5.50 into $5) and the rails-drawn Tonto ($9).
Jumping from barrier seven with champion jockey Paul Harvey to ride, the Trevor Andrews-trained Oratorio gelding Outlaw Pete has won three of his five starts so far.
His latest was in a Benchmark 60+ at Ascot over 1200m on October 18 before a disappointing eighth in the Fairetha Stakes that he’s tipped to improve on when back up in distance.
He’s got winning form over the mile from Belmont in August and should appreciate the 1600m again on Saturday.
Lou Luciani’s Tonto has the inside alley jumping from barrier one with Jason Whiting retaining the ride having ridden the horse for his four career wins.
The Onemorenomore gelding also comes via an unplaced Fiaretha Stakes run when only 1.25 lengths away fourth, improvement expected as he too looks for a second win over 1600m after a victory at this track and distance back in April as a two-year-old.
Outside of those under $10 to win the WA Guineas are a number of other livewire chances at juicer odds including the Darren Macauliffe-trained filly Furious Dame ($10) coming off back-to-back wins at the track and stable mate to the favourite Delicacy ($13).
Al Maher filly Delicacy jumps from out wide in barrier 11 with Peter Hall aboard and comes off a win in the Group 3 W.A. Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) at the track and distance just last weekend.
She is followed by fellow mare and stable mate Ideal Image ($15) drawn one on her inside in barrier 10 and coming off a third in the WA Champion Fillies.
The next best in betting are then the Eric Wake-trained Fairetha Stakes third placegetter Cuanzo ($17) and Wally Mitchell’s colt Say Geronimo ($17) coming off a fifth in that same lead-up race.
