Pike’s Happy Disposition Ahead of 2014 WA Guineas

Ace Perth hoop William Pike is bullish over his chances aboard the favourite Disposition in this Saturday’s WA Guineas 2014 saying he wouldn’t want to be on any other horse in the three-year-olds’ showdown.

Fifteen promising youngsters make up the field for this year’s $400,000 Group 2 Sky Racing W.A. Guineas (1600m), one of the key support races on the Ascot race card for the biggest meeting of the Perth Summer Racing Carnival.

The clear favourite in the WA Guineas betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $2.40 is the Grant Williams-trained Reset gelding Disposition raced by the state’s foremost breeders Bob and Sandra Peters.

Drawn ideally in barrier two the undefeated galloper comes off back-to-back Listed wins at the track, the latest of which saw Pike guide him to a one length win over Rommel in the Listed Fairetha Stakes (1400m) on November 8.

Before that he first entered WA Guineas calculations with a barnstorming two and a quarter-length victory over Fuld’s Bet in the Listed Belgravia Stakes (1200m) last month.

While Saturday sees Disposition go up in grade again facing a big field over the mile for the first time, Pike rates him as the horse to beat and believes him deserving of his short price in the WA Guineas odds.

“I definitely wouldn’t want to swap the ride for any other one in the race,” Pike told TAB Radio.

“He’s a lovely horse and is doing everything right.

“That’s all we can ask for and we go into it with every chance.”

Disposition’s biggest WA Guineas threat according to the bookies meanwhile is market mover Outlaw Pete ($5) who, although beaten over four lengths when eighth in the Fairetha Stakes, already has winning form over the distance.

Other notable WA Guineas hopes include the Lou Luciani-trained Tonto ($9) jumping from barrier one shooting for his fifth win at start number eight and Furious Dame ($10) who comes off back-to-back wins.

The Peters also are represented in the WA Guineas this year buy the Williams-trained fillies Delicacy and Ideal Image who ran first and third respectively in last weekend’s Group 3 WA Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m).

While proven over the track and distance then, the stable mates to the favourite have to handle the boys on the weekend as well as awkward draws with Delicacy in 11 and Burgess Queen Stakes winner Ideal Image one closer in 10.
