Disposition Leads 2014 WA Guineas Field

Grant Williams’ undefeated gelding Disposition leads a quality line-up of three-year-olds facing off in one of the key support races at Perth’s Super Saturday – the W.A. Guineas 2014.

Due to run as Ascot Race 6 at 3:15pm (local), this year’s lucrative $400,000 Group 2 Sky Racing W.A. Guineas (1600m) features a field of 15 hopefuls.

Sure to be favourite in the WA Guineas betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au is Reset three-year-old Disposition looking to make it five wins from as many career starts.

Drawn ideally in barrier two with Perth’s premier hoop William Pike booked for the ride, Disposition was last seen winning the Listed Fairetha Stakes (1400m) at the track on November 8.

Pike was aboard for that win, as well as two of his other three victories starting with a stellar three and a half length effort on debut back in September.

He’s already a dual black type winner as well having won the Fairetha on the back of a two and a half length victory over Fuld’s Bet in the Listed Belgravia Stakes (1200m), also run at Ascot, with Brad Parnham aboard for that October 18 win.

The horses that ran second and third behind Disposition in the Fairetha Stakes last time out also back up in the WA Guineas with Rommel and Cuanzo out to turn the tables.

Drawn in gate five for Saturday, the Neville Parnham-trained Commands colt Rommel improved on some disappointing lead-up form to finish a length off Disposition two weeks ago and goes up to the mile for the first time here.

Cuanzo is also drawn well for the Guineas in barrier three for jockey Jarrad Noske, the consistent Eric Wake-trained son of Oratorio having run third in the Belgravia Stakes and also won at Ascot over 1100m on October 25 – Saturday’s distance the only query.

Along with the top fancy Disposition, there are four other last start winners in this weekend’s WA Guineas field including stable mate Delicacy in barrier 11 for Peter Hall.

A winner of four of her five starts to date, Al Maher filly Delicacy ran third two back behind Ideal Image in the Listed Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m) before relishing a step up to a mile to win the Group 3 W.A. Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) just last Saturday.

Williams has a total of three in the WA Guineas line-up this year with Disposition and Delicacy joined by the lightly-raced Burgess Queen Stakes winner Ideal Image, the daughter of top sire More Than Ready coming off a third to her stable mate in the WA Champion Fillies Stakes.

Also drawn wide and coming off a win are the Colin Webster-trained Settlers Creek (15) who won over 1500m here on November 4, and Toppa Dawozza for Gary Crispin (barrier 12) who also won over the 1500m at Ascot last time out and has form up to 1700m at Belmont.

The final last start winner is then Darren Mcauliffe’s Universal Ruler filly Furious Dame in gate four for Ben Kennedy shooting for her third win on the trot after a 1300m effort at Northam on October 26 and a 1200m win at Ascot last weekend.

Other notable WA Guineas acceptors for 2014 include the rails-drawn Fairetha Stakes fourth placed Tonto for Lou Luciani, 1600m winner at Belmont earlier this campaign Outlaw Pete and the Dan Morton-trained WA Champion Fillies Stakes fourth placegetter Cadenza.
