Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Cranbourne trainer Stephen Theodore will have double the chances at winning this Saturday on Zipping Classic Day at Sandown Racecourse with runners in both the Group 3 Sandown Stakes (1500m) and Group 3 Kevin Heffernan Stakes (1300m).
When describing this Saturday, the trainer said he was “a small stable with some big chances”.
Lady Lakshmi will jump from barrier five with Vlad Duric in the saddle in the $150,000 Sandown Stakes while Don’t Get Excited will enjoy an inside run from barrier two with Stephen Baster as hoop in the $150,000 Kevin Heffernan Stakes.
“I think it’s fair to say we’re a small stable but on Saturday I think we’ve got some big chances,” the trainer told Racing Network on Thursday.
Both horses were last seen running on Melbourne Cup Day, where they each finished twelfth. Lady Lakshmi had a tough run in the Group 3 Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes (1400m), finishing four lengths behind the winner Mahara, but Theodore says she has pulled up ok after the race. The hard track at Flemington took its toll on the mare but she appears in much better order now.
“She had no peace at all at Flemington and while I thought she was ready for that, she seems to have improved since that run, so that’s a positive,” he said.
“Her work here (Cranbourne) on Tuesday was exceptional.”
Before the Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes, the five-year-old mare enjoyed a minor placing in the Stellice Building Group Showcase (1200m) and a win in the BM90 Handicap (1400m) from her two other spring campaign starts.
She’s the market mover in the Sandown Stakes betting market at Ladbrokes.com.au, seeing her price shorten from $13 down to $10.
Don’t Get Excited finished six and a half lengths off winner Reparations in the MSS Security Sprint (1200m) last Tuesday but Theodore put forward a good case for the gelding come Saturday in the 2014 Kevin Heffernan Stakes.
“He’s won three from three at Sandown, three from three over 1300 (metres) and three from three third-up, so he ticks a few boxes,” he said.
Betting markets for the Kevin Heffernan Stakes will open shortly at Ladbrokes.com.au but with competition in the form of Flamberge and Generalife, Don’t Get Excited should be available at a lucrative price.
This weekend’s racing at Sandown is the last meet during the 2014 spring racing carnival and your last chance to take advantage of the Ladbrokes.com.au promotional offer. Simply deposit $25 and you’ll receive $75 worth of bonus bets!
