Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
The Mick Price-trained More Radiant will be looking to break her maiden status on Saturday in the Listed City of Greater Dandenong Stakes (1400m) at Sandown during Zipping Classic Day.
The three-year-old filly has scored the inside run from barrier one with Craig Newitt to ride. The jockey believes that the drop in class and best barrier draw this preparation will strongly help her drop the maiden status and score her first win in her sixth career start.
The Chris Waller-trained Wine Tales is $2.30 favourite in the betting market at Ladbrokes.com.au but Newitt is confident More Radiant ($4) should be the top pick for the race.
“I’ll be disappointed if More Radiant gets beaten,” Newitt told TVN.
“Although it has been running second and third, it has been going a lot better than that.
“She’s drawn bad gates the past two and getting stuck behind slow ones. At her last run I had to get going early on her as Tawteen just got it too easy in front.
“But from barrier one, I can put her in the box seat and she should be just too good for them. I think she is the best filly in the by a long way even though she is still a maiden.”
More Radiant finished third in the Group 3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m) on October 11, in which she worked her way home without ever looking threatening. She then finished runner-up in the Listed Crockett Stakes (1200m) but never looked like the winner, finishing 3½ lengths off the winner Tawteen. She made her move at the 600 metre mark however she could never catch the leader.
Wine Tales meanwhile has finished in the first two four times out her five career starts, including winning the Bill Gilmour Tennis Centre Plate (1350m). She made her debut in black-type racing on November 4 in the Listed Lexus Hybird Plate (1400m) in which she was blocked during the straight and in the concluding stages, finishing fifth.
