2014 Summoned Stakes Betting Update

A maximum field of 16 mares plus two emergencies accepted for the Group 3 Summoned Stakes (1500m) at Sandown Racecourse this Saturday, offering punters a variety of betting options and chances to back a winner.

The Summoned Stakes is one of six Group races that make up Zipping Classic Day, which happens to be the final leg of the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival.

Four of the mares are offering single figure odds in the betting market at Ladbrokes.com.au, led by Rose Of Choice at $4.20, though Politeness ($4.60) isn’t far off.

The Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Rose Of Choice is set to jump from barrier six with Mark Zahra serving as hoop. The five-year-old mare finished well in her two spring starts so far, coming third in the Group 3 Nivison (1200m) first up before finishing second in the Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes (1400m). She can hopefully add a win to her campaign come Saturday.

However first she’ll need to beat home a maximum capacity field of rivals, including three other mares offering single figure odds.

  • #3 Politeness ($4.60) – the Robert Smerdon-trained four-year-old has got the class to win the Summoned Stakes but has failed to finish in the first three in all of her four spring starts. All four have been fast finishes and well run but she’s just been unlucky to find a placing or win. Politeness was only two lengths away last time out in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) and should be a strong competitor in the Summoned Stakes.
  • #12 Belle De Coeur ($5.50) – is one of two hopefuls for trainer Chris Waller in the race, set to jump from barrier 10 with Glen Boss in the saddle. The five-year-old has only had one spring start, which was a fast finishing fourth in the Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes alongside race favourite Rose Of Choice.
  • #2 Estonian Princess ($8) – like Politeness, the Scott Aspery-trained Estonian Princess has had plenty of experience this spring in classy races but has missed out on a placing more often than not. She fought hard for a second placing in the Group 3 Angst Stakes (1600m) before finishing just under two lengths off Bonaria in the Myer Classic after following the winner into the race and running on very strongly.

There are plenty of mares offering lucrative double digit odds that could easily cause an upset in the race including Greys Challenge (1400m) runner-up Secret Toy Bizness ($17).

Saturday is the final day of the spring racing carnival for another year, so make sure yours ends on a positive note. Simply deposit $25 at Ladbrokes.com.au and you’ll earn $75 worth of bonus bets – that’s a total of $100 to use at your decision on Zipping Classic Day.
