The Blackfriars gelding jumps from barrier two of 11 in this year’s $150,000 Group 3 R.J. Peters Stakes (1500m) with top jockey Patrick Carbery booked to ride the up-and-comer.

A winner of just one of his 10 career starts to date, Black Heart Bart broke his maiden status two back at Bunbruy over 1000m on October 19 before Carbery jumped in the saddle for the Group 3 Asian Beau Stakes (1400m) at Ascot on November 1.

There the galloper ran a credible second beaten only three quarters of a length by Balmont Girl, Saturday giving him the chance to go one better for his first Group race success.

A win will secure him a start in the $1 million Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) back at the track the following Saturday, Black Heart Bart currently paying $15 through Ladbrokes.com.au to win the November 22 classic in markets led by The Cleaner ($5.50).

Black Heart Bart also gets in on the 56kg minimum on the weekend with the RJ Peters Stakes weights led by Express Service and Trading Day on 59kg and drawn in barriers one and three respectively.

Another headliner in the field is the Grant Williams-trained Respondent with 58.5kg and drawn ideally in gate four with Perth’s premier hoop William Pike to ride.

Winner of the Group 2 WATC Derby (2400m) back in April as a three-year-old, Haradasun four-year-old Respondent has had two runs this time in.

The first was a fourth behind Fuchsia Bandana in the Group 3 Northerly Stakes (1400m) and then last start he ran third in the Asian Beau Stakes, the extra distance on Saturday to suit this proven staying type.

He’s also the shortest priced of the RJ Peters Stakes horses in the futures Railway Stakes odds paying $10.

Another runner coming off some top form for the season and in the Railway Stakes mix at $17 through Ladbrokes is the Simon Miller-trained mare Miss Rose De Lago in barrier six for Peter Knuckey.

She’s had three runs this time in for a win and two seconds, the four-year-old daughter of Encosta De Lago having finishing second in the Northerly Stakes last time out before a barrier trial win on Monday at Belmont Park.

Other notable hopes for Saturday’s showdown then include the Steve Wolfe-trained Asian Beau Stakes fourth placegetter Mr Utopia and Dubawi mare Bippo No Bungus for Neville Parnham.
