2014 Kevin Heffernan Stakes Nominations – Zipping Classic Day

One of the key support races on the Zipping Classic Day program this weekend at Sandown Racecourse is the Kevin Heffernan Stakes 2014, nominations for the weight-for-age showdown now out.

There are 15 early entries for the $150,000 Group 3 Kevin Heffernan Stakes (1300m), a race won last year by subsequent Horse Of The Year Lankan Rupee, on Saturday including Anthony Freedman’s last start Flemington winner Reparations.

On Melbourne Cup Day the Exceed And Excel six-year-old posted his second win in three starts since May, a nice first-up effort seeing him defeat Office Bearer by over a length in the Listed MSS Security Stakes (1200m).

He’s now back up to a distance he’s enjoyed two wins from three starts over, Reparations also a previous winner over the 1300m at Sandown.

MSS Security Stakes runner-up Office Bearer also backs up in the Kevin Heffernan for trainer Peter Moody looking to continue the improved form after three well-beaten runs before Cup Day.

Moody has also nominated for Exceed And Excel five-year-old Flamberge, winner of the Group 3 The Heath (1100m) back in August and last seen running fourth to Atmospherical in a Flemington black-type on Crown Oaks Day, as well as MSS Security eighth placed four-year-old Thermal Current.

Also in the mix and coming off a nice Melbourne Cup Carnival run is the John O’Shea-trained Generalife, the son of Lonhro third to Hucklebuck in the Group 3 Yellowglen Stakes (1400m) on November 1.

Other notable Kevin Heffernan Stakes nominees this weekend include the Gerald Ryan-trained Charlie Boy coming off a fourth in a Derby Day Group 2 over 1200m, Henwood for John Sadler, three time winner over the distance from four starts Nearest To Pin and the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Fast ‘N’ Rocking.

Fastnet Rock four-year-old Fast ‘N’ Rocking was last seen running third to Éclair Big Bang last Saturday over 1400m at Flemington, and being suspect over further than that co-trainer David Hayes wants to keep him at or below that distance opting not to go to Perth for the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) on November 22.

“I just thought Fast ‘N’ Rocking is suspect at the mile (1600m) so I’ll run him in the Kevin Heffernan Stakes (1300m) at Sandown on Saturday,” he told Racing Victoria.

“I don’t want to go to Perth with him to find out he doesn’t run a mile in a high-pressure Railway.

“I just haven’t got the right sort of horse to head to Perth this year.”

See below for the full Kevin Heffernan Stakes 2014 nominations, the field and barriers set for release on Wednesday.

Now then is the ideal time to open your online betting account with Ladbrokes.com.au and enjoy the benefits of this premier bookie including their $500 bonus bet offer that you can split up to four ways!
