2014 Gucci Stakes Tips & Selections

One of three Group races running at Flemington racecourse today is the Group 3 Gucci Stakes (1100m), with betting tips set out below.

The 2014 Gucci Stakes will see 16 three-year-old fillies sprint down the Flemington straight on Crown Oaks Day, with five offering single figure odds in the betting market at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Tawteen opened as $3.70 favourite and has retained her position at the top after winning the Listed Crockett Stakes (1200m) last start. However she’ll have to beat home Eloping ($5) and market mover Sultry Feeling ($5.50) to claim the title as sprint queen.

Will Tawteen justify her favouritism and win the 2014 Gucci Stakes? Check out our betting tips and selections below to get a better idea of a winner to back.

1st

#1 Eloping ($5)

Get your money back at Ladbrokes.com.au if your horse loses in the Gucci Stakes!

The Peter Morgan & Craig Widdison-trained Eloping will start wide from gate 13, however down the straight Flemington track this isn’t the biggest issue. With no turns, the inside runners don’t get any advantage. Eloping is the most experienced runner on the field, stepping up to Group One level last time out in the Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m). She led the outside group, acting like a buffer on the outside rail getting hit by all the heavy wind. However she ran her usual tough race to finish near the placings in sixth. This followed back-to-back wins in the Group 3 Champagne Stakes (1200m) and Listed Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) as well as a third in the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000m) first up. She’ll definitely finish in the money in the Gucci Stakes.

2nd

#2 Tawteen ($3.90)

The favourite to win the Gucci Stakes, the David Hayes & Tom Daberning-trained filly will start from barrier one. Tawteen has only finished outside the first three once in her seven career starts and not since her first time up in January. She won the Crockett Stakes last start by an easy 3½ lengths after getting early speed to find the front. She controlled the race at a nice tempo before giving a strong kick at the bend to draw away for a solid win. This followed a runner-up finish in the Group 3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m) so it’s easy to see why she’s the favourite.

3rd

#8 Snip Spur ($34)

Peter & Paul Snowden’s Snip Spur is offering punters exceptional value in the Gucci Stakes betting with a win price of $34 or $8.80 to place. Many of the runners have ran in less than five competitive races, and with not much to go on could cause an upset – Snip Spur is one of those. She has had four career starts since November last year when she came second in the TAB Rewards 2YO Plate (1000m). She’s yet to make the step up in class to black type racing but won the One Steel Plate (1200m) two races back before finishing second in the Westrac Cup (1000m).

Bet on the 2014 Gucci Stakes at Ladbrokes.com.au and you’ll get your money back if your horse loses! If your first fixed odds win bet loses, you’ll get your money straight back into your betting account.
