Three-year-old Eloping has had four starts this season alone but trainers Peter Morgan & Craig Widdison will aim the tough filly toward the $200,000 Group 3 Gucci Stakes (1100m) at Flemington tomorrow.
Morgan continues to be surprised how well Eloping bounces through every single race, even the hard ones.
Eloping was third first-up in the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000m) before winning back-to-back races with the Group 3 Champagne Stakes (1200m) and Listed Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m). She was sixth in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) last Saturday, after leading the race against a heavy wind. She led the outside group and acted like a buffer on the outside rail but ran her usual tough race to be near the placings.
“She led and did all the tough stuff into that wind and still ran well,” Morgan told Racing Network on Wednesday.
“She came home and was fine.
“Never left an oat and bounced out of her box again the next morning.
“She’s just remarkable – never had one like her.”
If Eloping can win the 2014 Gucci Stakes, she’ll earn herself the tag as Australia’s toughest filly after backing up from the Coolmore Stud Stakes just five days before.
“I don’t know how that track is going to play,” Morgan added.
“One day the fence is the only place to be and the next it’s a no-go zone.
“We’ll just have to wait and see what happens tomorrow, but she’ll make her own luck as usual and be tough to beat.”
Eloping is on the second line of betting at Ladbrokes.com.au available at odds of $4.60 to win the sprint race, behind favourite Tawteen ($3.70) who will make her first start in Australia after winning the Maiden Fillies Stakes (1437m) in Britain.
