There are only a few minutes left until the Melbourne Cup 2014 results are known with the winner of ‘The Race That Stops a Nation’ set to cross the line first in Flemington Race 7 at 3:00pm (AEDT).
The Melbourne Cup winner will come from one of the 22 stayers left in the mix for this year’s $6.2 million Group 1 Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m), the favourite of which is Japan’s Caulfield Cup winning raider Admire Rakti ($6).
The Melbourne Cup favourite won the race 12 months ago with Gai Waterhouse winning her maiden ‘Loving Trophy’ with the Damien Oliver-ridden Fiorente.
Waterhouse is without a runner in this year’s Melbourne Cup field but Oliver, a triple Melbourne Cup winning jockey, will be after back-to-back wins with market mover Mutual Regard.
The Johnny Murtagh-trained European was last seen winning the Ebor Handicap and has been smashed by the punters at Ladbrokes.com.au firming in form $13 to $9 to win his Australian race debut in today’s major.
Another Sydney trainer then will be after his first Melbourne Cup result today with Chris Waller saddling up three hopefuls, the shortest priced of which is Auckland Cup winner Who Shot Thebarman ($20).
Also in the mix at juicy Melbourne Cup odds is last year’s runner-up Red Cadeaux ($26) the dual second placegetter in the classic contesting his fourth straight edition.
The Melbourne Cup 2014 results will be published on Races.com.au as soon as the first four are made official so stay tuned.
Now then is the time to get your final Melbourne Cup late bets down on the horses you are tipping to run the trifecta this afternoon online at Ladbrokes.com.au.
Remember too that Ladbrokes are offering $10,000,000 if you can successfully guess the first seven horses in the Melbourne Cup results with their juicy Megafecta promo!
