Stamping his claims as one to watch from his maiden preparation through the spring of 2011, Brambles finished third in a minor over 1400m first-up and continued to impress in claiming back-to-back race wins in the Railway Club Hotel Plate (2600m) and Le Pine Funerals Handicap (1600m); returning to the paddock after finished a close second in the NYE at Moonee Valley Handicap (1600m).

Undoubtedly hitting career-best form over the autumn and winter of 2012, the Savabeel gelding ran second to The Great Snowman in a minor over 1400m first-up before finishing fourth in the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m), third in the Group 3 Gunsynd Classic (1600m) and claiming back-to-back victories in each of the Group 3 Rough Habit Plate (2000m) and Group 3 Gran Prix Stakes (2200m) on his way to a maiden victory at the highest level of racing in the Group 1 Queensland Derby (2400m).

Spending nearly two years in the paddock nursing a severe tendon injury back to full strength, Brambles ran a promising fourth in the Listed Thoroughbred Club Cup (1440m) first-up this time in; continuing to build in form on his way to an impressive third in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) and fourth in the featured Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 18th.

While running ninth in the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) last weekend, trainer Peter Moody is confident the gelding out of Prickle will be able to overcome the wide and awkward barrier 21 and find an ideal position at the fore of the 2014 Melbourne Cup pack.

Will Brambles score a huge upset in the 2014 Melbourne Cup, or will one of his classy rivals find the line in the clear?
