Charging home to secure an exceptional victory in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) last time out on October 18th, talented Japanese raider Admire Rakti is offered a perfect chance to complete the Cups double on Tuesday from the ideal barrier 8.

Securing a commendable total of seven wins and a further 11 minor places from his 27 competitive appearances on course so far, Admire Rakti more than stamped his claims for a trip to Australia for the Melbourne Cup when finishing a close second to leading stayer Gold Ship in the Group 2 Hanshin Daishoten (3016m) first-up this year on March 23rd.

Allocated a race-high 59kgs for the Caulfield Cup, the Heart’s Cry entire drifted noticeably in betting markets in the hours leading up to the feature race but announced his Australian arrival when mustering an exceptional final-straight sprint to comfortably find the line in the clear.

Returning to racing in exceptional form this season, classy mare Lucia Valentina is offered an exceptional chance of success in the 2014 Melbourne Cup after drawing the ideal barrier 2.

Beginning her racing career under the guidance of kiwi trainer Stephen Marsh before transferring to the care of Kris Lees at the beginning of the year, Lucia Valentina ran a credible third in her Australian racing debut in the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) on March 8th, and while appearing to be outclassed when 12th in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m), responded in the best way possible when taking out the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) on April 5th.

Jogging home to win the Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) first-up this time, the Savabeel mare has continued to receive an ideal lead-up to the Melbourne Cup in winning the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) and finishing third in the Caulfield Cup last time out.

One of only three mares confirmed for the 2014 Melbourne Cup, Lucia Valentina will be partnered by Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Kerrin McEvoy.

Also returning to the track in scintillating form this time in, Fawkner has been the shining light in an otherwise quiet 2014 Spring Racing Carnival for Macedon Lodge and has a great opportunity to take out the 2014 Melbourne Cup from barrier 9.

The winner of the 2013 edition of the Caulfield Cup, Fawkner finished an agonizingly-close second to Dissident in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) first-up before returning to the winner’s circle in the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) on October 11th.

Having finished a close second to Adelaide in the Cox Plate over 2040m last time out, owner Nick Williams is confident the Reset gelding offers the Macedon Lodge stables their best chance of Melbourne Cup success since classy stable mate Green Moon took out the 2012 edition.

German raider Protectionist finished a credible fourth in the Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes (2400m) first-up, and will leave from the winningest Melbourne Cup barrier 11 on Tuesday.

Finishing outside the places on just one occasion in over his nine race career so far, the Monsun gelding has found outstanding form over the 2014 European racing calendar; finishing second in each of the Preis von Dahlwitz (2011m) and Group 2 Grosser Preis Der Badischen Unternehmer (2212m) first-up before claiming back-to-back victories in the Group 2 Hansa-Preis (2413m) and key form indicating Group 2 Prix Kergorley (3000m) on August 24th.

Two-time Melbourne Cup runner-up Red Cadeaux is reportedly in career-best form leading into Race 7 at Flemington on Tuesday, but has been charged with overcoming the somewhat awkward barrier 15.

In an interesting twist, three of OTI Racing’s four confirmed runners in Brambles, Gatewood and Au Revoir have been drawn alongside one another in the wide barriers 21, 22 and 23 respectively.

Returning to racing in typically strong form this time in, OTI’s fourth runner Lidari is offered a great chance of settling in prime position early in the 2014 Melbourne Cup from barrier 10.

German stayer Seismos, who was somewhat disappointing when only managing 15th in the Caulfield Cup first-up, will leave from barrier 1 in the Melbourne Cup, while Araldo has been charged with overcome the outside and awkward barrier 24.
