Lidari Ready for Melbourne Cup Test

Returning to racing in typically competitive form this time in, trainer Peter Moody is confident of a polished performance in the 2014 Melbourne Cup from classy import Lidari, despite the five-year-old having not lined up for a competitive tilt since the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 18th.

Securing a commendable race record of seven wins and a further six minor places over a total of 25 competitive appearances on course so far, Lidari began his racing career abroad in his native France before transferring to the care of Moody at the conclusion of 2012.

Understandably pleased with the form and class displayed by the Acclamation entire over his five Spring Racing Carnival starts this time in, Moody told Racing Ahead Lidari has taken to work particularly well following his credible run for sixth in the Caulfield Cup and believes a run this weekend would only be to the stallion’s detriment.

“He is super,” Moody said.

“He wasn’t in need of anymore and he will have his final piece of work at Caulfield tomorrow morning.

“He will head there on Tuesday in great shape.”

Winning the BMW Handicap (1400m) before finishing a close third in the Group 2 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) over a short 2013 Spring Racing Carnival, Lidari returned to racing in great form over the 2014 Autumn Carnival; finishing seventh in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) first-up before returning to the winner’s circle in the Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m) on March 8th.

While unable to figure in contention in either of the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) or Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) before returning to the paddock, the stallion out of Laxlova ran fifth in the Group 1 P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m) first-up this season and fourth in both the Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes and Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) before running a close second to Lucia Valentina in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) on October 4th.
