Ken KeysBring Something, a $7 shot at, ultimately won the 2014 Bendigo Cup after coming out from wide and winning in the last stride from Massiyn and Order Of The Sun by just a short half-head.

Punters favourite Order Of The Sun jumped well but it was Massiyn that surprisingly took the lead until the 1000m mark when Kerrin McEvoy led Order Of The Sun to the front and rolled clear. Both horses ran well but couldn’t hold off Luke Nolen and Bring Something.

Bring Something is very much a raw horse, still learning but the talent is there and Keys was absolutely thrilled with the victory. He noted the gelding will be aimed toward the Group 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2600m) on November 8 but the win has ideally set him up for a tilt in the 2015 Melbourne Cup in twelve months’ time.

“I think we can with credibility go towards the Queen Elizabeth but then it’ll be put away time,” he said directly after the race.

“I think we’ve got an exciting horse to look forward to next year.”

Luke Nolen brought Bring Something home and believes the gelding still has some work to do but will be an exciting stayer when he does.

“I probably got to the front at the furlong and probably gained a nice advantage but he just hasn’t completely worked out his craft,” the jockey said after the race.

“I had to get moving when I did because he does take a bit of stoking up, and appreciates a bit of room.

“He just hasn’t quite worked out his trade yet but he’s an exciting stayer going forward.”

Bring Something is heading in the right direction and will surely be one to watch in the big races this time next year.
