Moonee Valley Cup Odds and Betting Update

Just nine runners remain in contention for this afternoon’s Group 2 Moonee Valley Cup (2500m) following the late scratching of leading chance Mr O’Ceirin this morning, offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.

Having returned to the track in typically strong form this time in, classy Chris Waller-trained stayer Opinion has opened as and maintained status as outright favourite in Moonee Valley betting markets and is currently available at odds of $3 after experiencing notable attention from punters over the last 24 hours.

Securing five wins and as many minor places from his 24 competitive appearances on course so far, Opinion began his racing career under the guidance of renowned British trainer Sir Michael Stoute before transferring to Waller’s care at the end of 2013.

Winning the Listed Parramatta Cup (1900m) before finishing second in each of the Listed Randwick City Stakes (2000m), Group 3 NE Manion Cup (2400m) and Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m), the Oasis Dream gelding has steadily built to the task over four starts this time in, peaking with a strong run for second in the Group 1 The Metropolitan (2400m) last time out.

Allocated the somewhat awkward barrier 9, Opinion will have to find similarly strong form if to overcome the likes of clear market mover Precedence in the 2014 Moonee Valley Cup, who is aiming for his third victory in the Group 2 event.

Opening at particularly generous odds of $8 for success in Moonee Valley Cup betting markets, punters have rallied around Bart and James Cummings’ veteran stayers, seeing his quote cut in drastically to current $4.80 odds and push the nine-year-old to the second line of betting.

Completing ten race wins and as many minor places from his 61 competitive appearances on course so far, Precedence’s chance of a third Moonee Valley Cup triumph took a huge boost on Wednesday when allocated the ideal barrier 4.

Quickly building to the task over just two starts this time in, the Zabeel gelding will once again line up for the Melbourne Cup on the first Tuesday of November and is a great chance of securing winning form this afternoon.

Yet to appear on course competitively in Australia, classy French raider Au Revoir is also chasing a Melbourne Cup berth in the Moonee Valley Cup and currently occupies the third line of betting at even $5 odds having cut in from an opening quote of $5.50.

Claiming three wins and two minor places from his 13 competitive appearances on course to date, the Singspiel gelding finished fourth amongst classy competition in the Group 3 Prix Exbury (2000m) first-up this year and has continued to build in form and class on his way to fourth behind the likes of Ruler Of The World in the Group 2 Prix Foy (2400m) most recently.

Local hopefuls Le Roi and Albonetti have steadily drifted in Moonee Valley Cup betting markets over the last 24 hours, while Epingle has firmed drastically.
